Trump Believes Minnesota Cyberattacked Itself, Dismisses Iran Blame, Drags Tim Walz: I Think That Minnesota Is Behind It’

Donald Trump has continued his conflict with Minnesota Governor Tim Walz.

At the end of July, Minnesota experienced a coordinated cyberattack affecting over 30 municipal water systems across the state. While the U.S. Intelligence community largely believed (as reported by popular publications, including The New York Times) that Iranian hackers were responsible for the incident, Trump held a different view.

Speaking to reporters in a video that has gone viral on social media, Trump emphasized that he believed Minnesota was behind the cyberattack, and that Governor Tim Walz also playing a role in it.

In a video that has gained significant attention on X, Trump is asked by a journalist during a press conference to comment on the coordinated cyberattacks on Minnesota water systems and the suspicion that Iran may be involved. Dismissing the journalist’s claims, Trump responded that he doesn’t think Iran was behind the attacks but instead blames Minnesota itself, including Governor Tim Walz.

He states, “I think that Minnesota is behind it. You know who is behind it? Minnesota. Because they’re grossly incompetent. I think the governor is behind it. I don’t think there was an Iranian cyberattack.” Trump also added that there were reports of “massive” corruption in Minnesota and asked the journalists gathered there to fact-check the statement from Vice President JD Vance.

Governor Tim Walz rarely stays silent when President Trump addresses him, and he isn’t doing so this time either. In response to Trump’s comments, Walz posted on social media, saying, “Trump knows exactly who is responsible for this attack, and knows that other states were hit too.”

Walz also mentioned that Trump had “no plan to win a war with Iran” and added that the Trump Administration, through the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), had jeopardized the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency.

Minnesota Congresswoman Angie Craig also weighed in, saying (as per MPR News): “Minnesotans are already reeling from the President’s war in Iran and now we have evidence to believe that the impacts of this conflict have hit even closer to home. It’s time to end the war, stop the political games and put Americans out of harm’s way.”
