NYC Woman Says a Dunkin’ Worker Handed Her a ‘Toilet Plunger’ and Wouldn’t Tell Her What It Is. She’s Still Confused: ‘I Tried to Ask’

She has questions.

A Dunkin’ Donuts customer is scratching her head after a worker handed her what looked exactly like a toilet plunger with her order, and now the internet is just as confused. Casey Cheng, @caseycheng_ on TikTok, posted a video sometime in June showing the strange object she received. Even after asking the cashier what it was for, she was just told to take it without any explanation. The clip has since gone viral, with commenters finally solving the mystery.

Casey’s video starts with her holding up the object, looking completely baffled. “I just got back from Dunkin,” she says. “Why did they give me a toilet plunger with my drink? Like, I don’t even know what this is. And I tried to ask, and she was like, just take it. Just take it. I was like, but what is it? And she’s like, just take it. Why do I have this and what does it do? There’s nothing inside of it.”

The confusion is real, and honestly, you can’t blame her. If you were handed something that looked like it belonged in a bathroom, you’d probably have the same reaction.

Turns out, the object is actually part of Dunkin’s latest golf-themed promotion

Commenters chimed in to explain that it’s a cup holder designed to stick into the grass. One person wrote, “It’s for the golf course, you’re supposed to put it in the grass so you don’t knock over your drink. So unnecessary, no idea why they would make those.” Another added, “They’re having some kind of golfing promotion going on, I think for Father’s Day.” So, mystery solved, right? Well, not everyone is sold on the idea.

Some TikTok users had more creative suggestions for how to use the cup holder. One person said, “Wait, you could put it between couch cushions too, put your drink in if you don’t have a table.” Another joked, “I think you stack donuts on it.” And then there were the critics, who weren’t shy about sharing their thoughts.

One comment read, “Because Dunkin makes you poo,” while another said, “Lmfao I know those workers are just as over it.” A particularly memorable comment came from someone who said, “ONE TIME THEY GIVE ME A MITTEN. NOT A SET, JUST ONE SINGULAR MITTEN.” It’s safe to say Dunkin’s promotional items have left some customers feeling a little bewildered.

The ‘plunger lookalike’ isn’t the only golf-themed product Dunkin’ rolled out

According to Yahoo, in June, the company launched a limited-edition golf line in collaboration with TaylorMade Golf Company, and it’s all part of a bigger push to celebrate the sport. The promotion includes a Munchkin Golf Ball Sleeve, which comes with three donut holes and one Dunkin’ x TaylorMade golf ball. There’s also a Westhampton Beach Dunkin’ golf store takeover, where fans can check out the new merch in person.

According to Dunkin’, the line is meant to celebrate “the routines, rituals and moments that define how golfers and fans alike show up to the game – whether it’s the first iced coffee before an early tee time, a Refresher at the turn, or a post-round stop on the way home.” As part of the promotion, customers get a free Tee Cup Holder with the purchase of a beverage at participating locations.

The cup holder is decorated with a Dunkin’ argyle print. The company has also partnered with two-time Major Champion John Daly to promote the new items. In a YouTube video, Daly shared that he orders his drink “Daly style, with a little bit of room.”

Dunkin’ is also offering two new limited-edition beverages to go along with the golf theme. The first is the Peach “Tee” Dunkin’ Zero, a zero-sugar energy drink inspired by peach tea, mixed with iced black tea. The other is the Raspberry “Tee” Lemonade, which combines sweet and tart lemonade with iced black tea and raspberry flavor.

The real star is the Tee Cup Holder

It’s easy to see why it’s causing so much confusion. If you’re not a golfer, you might not immediately understand its purpose, and that’s exactly what happened to Casey. The fact that it looks like a toilet plunger doesn’t help either.

It’s one of those things where you have to wonder who at Dunkin’ thought this was a good idea. Sure, it’s functional if you’re on the golf course, but for the average customer picking up their morning coffee, it’s just a weird little object that takes up space in their bag.

It’s all part of Dunkin’s brand, and honestly, it’s kind of fun to see what they’ll come up with next. Whether or not the Tee Cup Holder becomes a must-have item remains to be seen, but for now, it’s definitely the talk of TikTok.

If you’re curious about the golf line, you can check it out at participating Dunkin’ locations. And if you happen to get a Tee Cup Holder with your order, at least now you’ll know what it’s for. Or, you know, you could just use it to stack donuts.
