It’s no surprise that Americans sure love bacon.

Reportedly, 70% of it is consumed at breakfast time alone. When unwrapping any food with this staple in it, you’re expecting to see crispy, golden-brown strips. What this woman received in her Dunkin’ Wake Up Wrap soured her taste buds.

As she sits in her car, Florida-based TikTok user Lilly (@lillyurbann) is holding two pink-and-white, rubbery strips between her fingers.

“This is the bacon that was in my Wake Up Wrap,” she says, bending a piece that doesn’t snap or crunch. “This looks like the bacon treats I give to my dog.”

Needless to say, this spoiled her appetite. “What the f– is this sh–?” she asks, disgusted. Then, the video cuts to her open tortilla with bacon on top of the egg.

The incident doesn’t stop Lilly from putting the fast-food chain on blast. “I am appalled. @Dunkin’ can you explain this bacon?” she expresses in the caption.

Viewers Had Answers–And Jokes

Lilly’s video amassed 3.5 million views, and many felt the same way she did, unanimously agreeing this wasn’t real bacon. So, they started cracking jokes about what this suspicious meat was.

“I know pupperoni when I see it,” one viewer quipped.

“Looks like zebra stripe gum,” another jested.

“Bacon ???! I thought those were some new kind of fruit roll ups,” a third joked.

Why Does Her Dunkin’ Bacon Look Like That?

On a serious note, others had an explanation, presuming this was vegetarian bacon.

“That’s MorningStar bacon lmao,” one commenter stated.

Another echoed, “That’s MorningStar. I’d recognize that bacon anywhere plant based.”

As it turned out, those viewers were correct. Further in the comments section, Lilly confirmed it was vegetarian bacon, explaining, “Apparently I went to a kosher location so it’s a vegan bacon.”

Typically, Dunkin’ opts for smoked cherrywood bacon in their breakfast meals. Instead, the 40 kosher Dunkin’ stores serve food that abides by Jewish dietary laws called ‘kosher.’ Bacon isn’t one of them.

According to US Foods, animals that don’t have hooves and chew their cud (i.e., pigs and camels), seafood, birds of prey, scavengers, and insects, to name a few, are prohibited. Even meat-and-dairy combinations are forbidden. Since pork is a no-no, it’s usually replaced with plant-based options.

For an establishment to be kosher, it’s not only about offering the approved foods and ingredients; there are rigorous procedures it must operate under. The publication lists say it’s about preventing cross-contamination by keeping meat and dairy preparation, along with every single piece of equipment, separate, and inspecting each fruit or vegetable for insects. In addition, a rabbi or a kosher-authorized person must be present through the entire cooking process.

To prevent any confusion, search for a kosher certificate somewhere outside or inside the building of a business.
