Pride and Prejudice’s Sweet Spin-Off Series Is Coming Back and Sooner Than Expected

One of the best spin-off series on TV right now is coming back sooner than expected. Pride and Prejudice fans should be especially excited!

There’s a ton of stuff on television right now. But, not a lot of it is better than The Other Bennet Sister. BritBox’s show takes a playful look at what’s going on over there with Mary Bennet. (Played to delightful effect by Ella Bruccoleri!)

Now, TVInsider reports that the Pride and Prejudice spinoff is getting a three part Christmas special this year. The Other Bennet Sister’s finale premiered today on BritBox. So, fans are gonna enjoy one of the shortest gaps between a season one and more of their favorite in the streaming era.

This is even more delightful when we note that the novel that inspires The Other Bennet Sister doesn’t have a sequel. So, the idea of a Season 2 was far from a sure thing. In fact, they publishing house and BritBox are probably hitting up Janice Hadlow right now to ask for even more.

Pride and Prejudice fans might be a discerning bunch, but they show up when the adaptation passes muster. You have to really marvel at this show finding its fanbase outside of novel diehards. 

It’s a crowded field for TV, even with adaptations these days. So this is just a cool development to see take hold in the wake of Season 1’s success.

The Other Bennet Sister Returns for More Pride & Prejudice Fun

Apparently, TV Insider reports that The Other Bennet Sister will shoot these Christmas Special episodes over the summer in Wales. In addition, they script has already been typed up. BritBox dropped a photo of the document on social media to strike up excitement.

They also had the brass behind the show type up some statements thanking the fans for their support. Even in the U.K., a new show like this faces a steep hill to climb.

Executive Producer Jess O’Riordan said, “We know how much audiences have fallen in love with Mary Bennet, and we’re thrilled that her story isn’t over yet. We are so pleased Mary’s story will continue for three more chapters and to welcome audiences back into the world of The Other Bennet Sister this holiday season.” 

Jane Tranter is steering the ship for Bad Wolf, the production house for The Other Bennet Sister. Her statement explains just how interesting it can be to push a piece of art out into the world.

“We always hoped audiences would fall in love with Mary Bennet’s story, but the response to The Other Bennet Sister has exceeded even our most optimistic expectations,” Tranter explained.

“These Christmas specials give us the chance to spend a little more time with characters audiences have taken to their hearts, and to explore what happens after the wedding bells fade and real life begins,” she adds. “Returning to the world of Mary Bennet with our brilliant partners at the BBC and BritBox feels like the perfect way to celebrate the success of the series and give viewers a treat this Christmas.”
