Amber Heard Steps Out of the Shadows in Madrid, Revealing a New Life Far From Her Hollywood Past

Amber Heard just gave fans a rare glimpse into her new life in Madrid, and it’s a far cry from the Hollywood drama surrounding her that once dominated headlines. According to PEOPLE, the 40-year-old actress shared a post on Instagram after completing her first 10K race in the Spanish capital, radiating post-run joy alongside her five-year-old daughter, Oonagh.

The snapshots, posted on Sunday, June 21, show Heard in a pink running outfit, her face flushed with accomplishment as she celebrated crossing the finish line of the KLM Norte Sur race. Her caption, “First race glow,” was simple but telling. This wasn’t just about fitness; it was about her life today.

Heard has been living in Spain since 2022, trading the relentless scrutiny of Los Angeles for the quieter streets of Madrid, where she’s found a rhythm that prioritizes family and personal well-being over red-carpet appearances. The photos with Oonagh, who grinned in a red-and-white dress while her mom held her close, underscored that shift. “Nothing beats this feeling,” Heard wrote in pink text over one of the images.

The update feels like a quiet declaration of where her priorities lie now

Running has always been more than just exercise for Heard. In a 2018 interview, she called it her go-to stress reliever, a way to clear her mind no matter where she was in the world. “I like running because it’s a way for me to alleviate stress, clear my mind, and refocus,” she has said. “Plus, I can do it anywhere. I travel so much that it’s invaluable to me to have something that keeps me healthy and feeling good no matter where I am.”

That philosophy seems to have taken on even deeper meaning since she relocated to Spain. These days, she’s often spotted jogging through Madrid’s neighborhoods, a far cry from the paparazzi-choked sidewalks of Hollywood.

Heard’s approach to fitness, and life, has been pragmatic. She’s never been one to subscribe to the idea that health has to be miserable. “If you’re not going to enjoy life, there’s no point in eating a certain way and working out and doing all the things actors do to manipulate how we look – and how the world looks at us,” she said in that same interview.

That mindset is evident in her recent posts. There’s no performative perfection here, just a mom celebrating a personal milestone with her kid, sweat and all. “When I’m not preparing for a movie, I have more freedom, and I incorporate my workout into my life so that I enjoy it and it doesn’t feel like an obligation,” the In the Fire actress explained.

The move to Spain was her attempt at rebuilding

The move to Spain wasn’t just about escaping the fallout of her highly publicized defamation trial with ex-husband Johnny Depp. It was about rebuilding. After the verdict in 2022, Heard spent time on the island of Mallorca before settling permanently in Madrid, where she focused on raising her three children: Oonagh, and her one-year-old twins, Agnes and Ocean.

In May 2023, she told local reporters in fluent Spanish that she “loves living” in the country and has no plans to leave. That sense of belonging is something her neighbors have noticed, too. One local told reporters that Heard is often seen walking Oonagh to school in the mornings, dressed casually in a cap and sunglasses, blending in with the community, according to HOLA!

“This is a neighborhood filled with famous people, including football players, but no one bothers each other,” they said. “I think that’s why she likes it – she has completely integrated into the community.”

Heard’s life in Madrid isn’t just about running and school drop-offs, though. She’s also been dipping her toes back into creative work. In 2023, she starred in Jeremy O’Harris’ play Spirit of the People in the U.S., earning critical acclaim for her performance. It was a reminder that while she may have stepped back from the spotlight, she hasn’t disappeared entirely.

The play, coupled with her recent social media activity, suggests she’s carving out a new identity – one that’s less about Hollywood glamour and more about the simple, grounding joys of everyday life.

The photos from her 10K race are a perfect snapshot of that evolution

There’s no designer athleisure here, no carefully curated aesthetic. Just Heard, her daughter, and the unfiltered happiness of a goal achieved. The gold Oura ring on her finger, tracking her stats, is the only nod to a tech-savvy side of her life, but even that feels understated. This is a woman who’s clearly found comfort in the ordinary, and it suits her.

For fans who’ve followed her career, it’s a stark contrast to the Amber Heard of a few years ago. Back then, her life was dissected in courtrooms and tabloids, every move analyzed and scrutinized. Now, she’s just another mom at the finish line, high-fiving her kid and soaking in the post-race glow. It’s a reminder that sometimes, the best way to move forward is to step away from the noise entirely.
