‘I’m getting cussed’: Woman goes to a gender reveal. Then the mom-to-be ends their friendship over her outfit

Most friendship breakups involve something big. Usually it’s betrayal, lies, maybe years of simmering resentment. This one allegedly came down to a pair of blue overalls at a gender reveal.
A woman says she showed up to her friend’s gender reveal after following the only dress code she’d been given: wear the color you think the baby will be. She picked blue, attended the event, and thought everything was fine.
Hours later, her phone exploded with messages accusing her of being disrespectful, “frumpy,” and completely out of line. The offense? She wore overalls. Among the confusion came a plot twist some viewers were already speculating.
Almost 7 million viewers have tuned in to the latest gender reveal drama. This time, the six separate TikToks have amassed over 17,000 comments altogether. TikTok user Rachel Anderson (@noir_in_retrograde) shares her story on how her friend cut ties with her for an outfit she wore to the gender reveal party.
What Happened at this Gender Reveal Party?
Anderson begins the story by prefacing that she had been friends with the mom-to-be for over a year. When she was first invited to the party, the creator told her she already had a wedding that day so she couldn’t make it.
However, the mom-to-be assured her that it was at 8:30 a.m. so she could still make it. She agreed to go, and all she was “instructed to do” was wear the color she thought the baby’s gender would be. She attaches a picture of her outfit.
It’s blue overalls, a white long-sleeve top, and black-and-blue sneakers. Anderson thinks it’s cute and stresses that throughout the party, “no one says a word to me.” It’s only when she leaves that the texts start rolling in. The mom-to-be starts calling her “frumpy” and that she “ruined” all the photos. Apparently, the least she could have done is wear a blue dress. However, the creator specifies that no one told her it had to be a dress.
It seems the barrage doesn’t subside. Anderson also starts getting called out for her earrings and press-on nails. The mom-to-be calls it “decapitated Barbie head” earrings when the creator simply has Barbies dangling from her ears.
Anderson also calls the creator’s nails “black as in death.” Again, the creator provides context that she wore black nails because her outfit for the wedding was black. The creator tries to clear the air after she comes out of the wedding. She calls, and lo and behold, she’s blocked everywhere.
What Happens Next?
It so happens that after the video went viral, the mom-to-be found and watched it. The creator’s follow-up TikTok shares the texts that were then sent to her after this. She begins with, “Making a TikTok in an attempt to get sympathy while allowing complete strangers to say awful things about me just reaffirms what a sh– friend you are.”
It seems she is also upset that Anderson didn’t say why the gender reveal was in the morning. It was because her husband was flying out later that day. Then she says the invitation stated to wear a dress or skirt. The creator explains that she was never given an invitation. Then the text mentions something that had viewers taking the creator’s side even more.
The mom-to-be is mad because Anderson asked her if she could use her bathroom to change into her wedding outfit before she left. Her request was rejected.
“My parents were appalled, as was everyone else,” she rants, “but you made sure to ask to have time in my home to freshen up for the event that you actually wanted to be at for a friend you actually cared about.”
Lastly comes the whammy. The mom-to-be demands $20 for the gift she received. The creator overlays a picture of the gift, and it’s a candle.
The Husband Gets Involved
In a third update, Anderson reveals that the husband has entered the equation. So a few days after the entire debacle, the creator goes to drop off the gift. Anderson leaves it on the porch, without meeting anyone and advising the friend that she has left it there.
Following his wife’s footsteps, the dad-to-be now texts her with his barrage of messages. He straightforwardly exiles her from ever coming on their property again and to never contact them. Then he calls her a “disgusting human” who deserves the life she has. He blocks her afterwards. The creator stresses that she wouldn’t ever disregard dress codes or want to offend anyone. She just wants the blocking and unblocking to stop.
The Real Reason is Revealed
Like many of her viewers, Anderson has speculated whether the reason for all this commotion is her outfit or something deeper. In what she calls a “conclusion” to the saga, she posts the core of what sparked all this.
Apparently, the bride whose wedding she attended has mutual friends with the mom-to-be.
As soon as Anderson had left for the wedding, the mom-to-be’s in-laws started “hounding” her about the outfit and choice in jewelry and nails. Even more, despite meeting the dad-to-be just three months before, the creator comes to learn that he has been disparaging her behind her back for way longer than that. Even worse, his wife finds screenshots of the TikTok creator on his phone.

Aside from having pictures of Anderson before he had ever met her, there are also conversations about her with his friends. She also states that there is “evidence that my pictures and videos had been used.”
This seems to turn the tide quite a bit. The creator admits that she now has sympathy for the wife, because “no woman on the planet deserves to be tied to a lustful [expletive] loser.” She notes that she is absolutely disgusted but feels bad for the wife.
Anderson knows that they won’t ever speak again, but she knows what it feels like to be ashamed and humiliated. As for the husband, the creator shares that he had been storing her pictures even up to a year before, meaning before she ever met his wife. All in all, the creator ends the story by saying she no longer wants to be involved.
