The world of Interview with the Vampire is back on our screens, with The Vampire Lestat adapting Anne Rice’s next book in the saga in a bombastic fashion. In between performing real-life rock concerts and charming plenty of fans, the show’s press tour has now encompassed a modern staple: reading thirst tweets with Buzzfeed, and it’s about as delightful as you would expect.

This week, the outlet shared a fifteen-minute-long video of franchise stars Sam Reid and Jacob Anderson reacting to a slew of tweets. Reid opens by joking that: “I am hoping that we have a very sensible and demure, considerate fanbase who only have clean, sanitized things to say,” before Anderson argues: “We don’t! We don’t, but we’re fine. We’re adults. We can do this.”

From there, it spins out into some moments that have to be seen to be believed. Plenty of slang terms are discussed (as well as Reid’s “slutty little waist”) and the pair get a brief lesson about the Omegaverse. There are also details about Lestat’s underwear that fans might not have been expecting.

What Is The Vampire Lestat About?

In The Vampire Lestat, the titular character goes on tour while being haunted by “muses” from his past. As the band’s popularity grows, so does Lestat’s influence over vampires & humans alike, leaving others to contend with Lestat’s power in the face of the Great Conversion.

In addition to Reid and Anderson, the cast of The Vampire Lestat includes Assad Zaman, Eric Bogosian, Delainey Hayles and Jennifer Ehle. The show is executive produced by award-winning producer Mark Johnson, creator, writer and showrunner Rolin Jones, Hannah Moscovitch, along with Christopher Rice and the late Anne Rice.

“What I do hope that people take away — because this is something that’s really, really fundamental to the character, and is from Anne Rice, and I think Rolin and Hannah have done a beautiful job executing it — is that he’s a very aspirational character,” Reid explained in a recent interview with Vulture. “He’s somebody who managed to stand up in the face of adversity over and over and over again. He’s got incredible resilience. He’s getting knocked down and humiliated and going through one traumatic event after another through the centuries, yet still manages to stand up and say, “Actually, I’m pretty fucking great.” He doesn’t always believe it, but he’s always reaching for it. He does always need a level of self-validation, which isn’t that aspirational, but no one’s perfect.”

“Sometimes I think about Anne Rice saying that he was her id and this character that she wanted to be,” Reid continued. “I don’t know if I want to be Lestat in my daily life, but he’s a force. In episode three, “The Loneliness” is this song where he’s saying, ‘You are this terrifying being that can’t escape being trapped in this never-ending cycle of abuse and fear and generating chaos wherever you go. But don’t let it get to you. Don’t burn alone. Don’t worship that grave. Don’t drive toward your end; go toward your potential.’ I think it’s very inspiring.”

New episodes of The Vampire Lestat debut on Sundays exclusively on AMC and AMC+.
