NYC woman goes kayaking in Cabo. Then her worst nightmare comes to life when a creature approaches: ‘My soul left my body’

Most vacation excursions promise “once-in-a-lifetime memories.” Few include coming face-to-face with the exact thing lurking in your personal nightmare rotation.
One woman thought she was signing up for a peaceful kayaking trip in Cabo. Instead, within seconds of hearing nearby boats panic and speed away, a massive whale launched itself out of the water just feet from her. Right after someone casually asked, “They don’t knock over kayaks, do they?” the ocean decided to answer personally.
What Happened on this Trip to Cabo?
Now that summer has fully arrived, Sara (@thesaralee_) wanted a simple beach trip. It only makes sense to go to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. And what’s a beach trip without kayaking? Sara was just one of many tourists in what she now calls the “craziest experience.”
Her clip documenting everything already has over 800,000 views and almost 2,000 comments. It begins with her text overlay reading: “Kayaking in CABO. The saxophones got so loud it blew my ears off.”
The latter sentence references a popular trend where the sound of saxophones predicts a bad situation. The first few seconds of the video show boats speeding off into the distance and Sara covering her mouth with her hand. An off-camera kayaker yells that there’s a whale.
The group of kayakers begins murmuring worriedly, and Sara asks where it is. The man responds, “It’s right here.”
As she films the view in front of her, about three boats are getting further away. It seems the whale has a great sense of comedic timing. The woman in front of Sara asks, “They don’t knock over kayaks, do they?”
No sooner have the words left her mouth when a whale somersaults into the air no less than 10 feet away. The splash it makes as it reenters the sea covers Sara’s phone. The clip ends here, but Sara’s caption says, “As someone who has always been TERRIFIED of whales this was the craziest experience of my life! My soul left my body for a min!”
When is Whale Season in Cabo?
To many, Cabo is more than just a quick beach trip in Mexico. Some people plan their entire holidays around whale watching season and when is the best time to spot them in Cabo. Whale Watch Cabo shares info and tips about the experience.
It should be noted that the whales that grace Cabo San Lucas’ waters are Gray and Humpback whales. Since they spend their summers up north in Alaska, Washington State, etc., they migrate down south for the winter.
This means the season for Cabo is from December 15 to April 15. Assuming Sara recorded her experience at the same time she posted it, she wasn’t supposed to see any whales. After all, it’s almost June, meaning the whale may have been overstaying his welcome.
Even in her caption, Sara shares, “I was told whale season was pretty much over and the likelihood of this happening was quite slim.” It seems it was just her luck, being deathly afraid of the animals and all.
