Miami woman makes a dinner reservation, gets dressed up for first date. Then the hostess tells her something shocking

Dressing to impress is pivotal for a first date. We’re putting our best foot forward, hoping we are wearing something that captures the person’s attention. Typically, the last thing on our minds is what the establishment would react to our outfit choice.
One Miami woman has left a lasting impact for the wrong reason. To this day, she still has a bone to pick with Amazónico after the fit she selected denied her entry.
“I wanna make a story time about this because I’ve been dying laughing at this for a long time. It’s so good that I have to share,” TikTok creator Hallie (@halliewtf) says. “And the guy in this story is now my boyfriend. Thankfully, it somehow worked out.”
First Date Story Time
“So, we’ve been talking for a little bit and he wanted to take me out on a date,” she says. “It was his birthday on the Monday and I was free.”
Since it was her date’s birthday, she desired somewhere special to celebrate. “I picked the restaurant ’cause I wanted it to be nice and it also so happened to be our first date,” she says. “I came to his apartment. Then, we Uber to the date together and I got a 10pm reservation at Amazónico.”
Because she had dined at this restaurant with her sorority two weeks prior when the restaurant first opened, she knew what to expect. Thus, she opted for the same ensemble.
“I’m wearing the exact same outfit I wore to Amazónico two weeks before,” Hallie says.
Then, the screen cuts to reveal a photo of her donning the ensemble: a black crop top with a matching lace maxi skirt.
“The pressure’s on. It’s his birthday, it’s our first date and I really like this guy,” she says. “I just want to make a really good first impression.”
Amazónico Didn’t Approve
“We roll up and I’m feeling confident in my good outfit. We go to the front and I’m like, ‘10pm reservation for Hallie,” the content creator recounts.
Immediately, the hostess shattered her confidence. “She looks me up and down and goes, ‘You can’t wear that here. You need to go change,” Hallie recalls the woman saying. “‘It’s against dress code. However, her boyfriend jumped to her defense.
“He was like, ‘It’s my birthday. Can you let us go this one time?’” she remembers him saying.
To add insult to injury, she felt humiliated. “I’m speechless. I’m embarrassed. It’s our first date and I just got rejected for what I’m wearing and this girl is giving me the hardest time,” she says.
Subsequently, her man resorted to a classic persuasion tactic: begging on his knees, which ends up garnering the hostess’ sympathy.
“She’s like, ‘This one time we will let it go but you can’t wear that ever again,” Hallie recalled the woman saying.
Still, she was ruminating on the initial denial. “We go to our tables, and I was clearly off,” she says. “I booked the dinner at this nice restaurant to get that treatment for it not being cheap at all on his birthday.”
Although this incident occurred in November and it resulted in a happy ending, Hallie still has beef with the restaurant.
“First of all, I haven’t been back and I don’t recommend anyone going there,” she says. “I don’t know what they were trying to do there. I wore that two weeks ago and no one said a thing. Girls are walking around in more revealing things than I am.”
“But yeah. That’s my story about Amazónico and my first date with my boyfriend,” she concludes.
Viewers Side with Hallie
Hallie’s video racked up over 28,000 views, stirring confusion among many, who believed her outfit was more than proper for Miami and Amazónico.
“That outfit in Miami worn at 10pm is perfectly acceptable at a hot spot!! That’s INSANE!” one viewer commented.
“As a girl born and raised in Miami – that outfit was very appropriate and I see no issue with it at all,” another echoed.
“My only question is why are they rejecting people on a Monday night like ??? you ate that btw,” a third added.
“Omg I was sat for the entirety of this…. Your outfit was so cute and also very tame for Miami,” a fourth agreed.
In an email to the Mary Sue, a spokesperson for Amazónico shared the following statement:
“We are in touch with Hallie and look forward to welcoming her back soon. The event discussed in the video occurred in November (2025) while we were still establishing our systems as a new restaurant. While this does not invalidate her experience, it highlights areas where we have since improved. At Amazónico, our primary goal is to ensure every guest feels welcome, and we are working to ensure this does not happen again.”
What Is The Dress Code At Amazónico?
Dress codes for upscale dining aren’t anything new. In fact, another Miami establishment called Casa Neos barred a group of friends because of their outfits. Nevertheless, Amazónico expects a ‘smart elegant’ attire from patrons. There are three categories listed on their website: men, women, and both. Men are prohibited from wearing shorts, sleeveless shirts, open-toed shoes, and baseball caps. The only thing off-limits for women is overly revealing clothes. Across the board, sportswear, beachwear, and flip-flops are a no-no.
To save the hassle, it’s best to research a high-end restaurant’s dress policy beforehand.
