Florida woman tries to make appointment with her nail tech. Then she gets caught in a 180—and wonders if it’s because of her ‘chicken breast nails’

A woman has sparked backlash on TikTok after revealing that she was recently dropped by her regular nail artist she’d been going to for two years.
In her video, which got over 4.3 million views, TikTok creator Margot Wolfner (@margotwolfner) shared the perplexing event that had just happened on the phone with her nail tech.
What Happened With Her Nail Tech?
“I just had like, the most baffling call with my nail salon,” she begins.
She says she had called a few minutes before to set her four-week appointment. Her regular artist allegedly picked up, but Wolfner didn’t realise it.
“Can I make an appointment for an acrylic fill with May or Tim?” she asked on the phone.
“And she goes, ‘Tim doesn’t work here anymore, and I don’t wanna do your nails,” she recalls.
Wolfner couldn’t hear her at first. “Tim doesn’t work here anymore, but May doesn’t work on Fridays?” she asked for clarification.
The nail artist allegedly reiterated, “No, this is May. I just don’t wanna do your nails.”
She says she asked her if there was a reason for it. The woman allegedly responded, “No, just because I don’t wanna do your nails.”
Wolfner conceded. “OK, I’ll go somewhere else,” she allegedly told the nail artist before hanging up.
She’s shocked. “I’ve been going there for two years,” she says, adding that she tips well, is quiet, and can’t think of anything wrong she did.
Except for one previous viral video. “I’m like, ‘Did they see my video of me shitting on the chicken breast nails?’”
The video she’s referring to is one that went viral a few years ago, in which she calls her fresh manicure color “chicken breast,” implying she regrets getting it.
“I’m literally so confused,” she says, wondering whether she should call back.
Commenters Side With the Nail Artist
In the comments section, the general feeling was that it was Wolfner who had done something wrong.
“As a nail tech… there’s definitely a reason,” one wrote.
“I need to hear Mays side of the story,” another said. “And Tim is still there 100%”
“Tim in the background like tell her i don’t work here anymore,” theorized a third.
‘Did they see my video belittling their work?’ a fourth wrote sarcastically.
TikToker Shares an Update
In a later video following the backlash, Wolfner addressed some of the criticism, saying she only posted the clip because she thought it was funny.
She also explained that the nail tech who fired her, May, wasn’t the one who had mixed the “chicken breast” color, or even the set altogether.
She says she doesn’t judge May for what she told her. “All power to May for saying no,” she said in the update. “Protect your peace. If you don’t want to do my nails, don’t do my nails.”
In yet another update, she shows a fresh set of nails, revealing she found a new nail artist.
Why Do Salons Sometimes Fire Clients?
It might seem a counterintuitive thing to happen. After all, a salon’s existence depends on client loyalty and the community built around it.
But according to a blog post by Modern Salon, there are legitimate reasons for this to happen, such as a client who doesn’t show up for an appointment, shows up late all the time, cancels at the last minute, and more.
However, continuous disagreement or dissatisfaction can also be a good reason to stop a relationship with a client, which the blog post illustrates via a personal story.
While it’s not exactly clear what happened between Wolfner and her previous nail tech, May, a service provider has the right to refuse that service for any reason, unless it’s discriminating against a protected characteristic.
@margotwolfner Is it because I went to someone else at the salon a few times?!? Now taking Jupiter/Palm Beach Gardens acrylic nail recs? #storytime #nailtech ♬ original sound – Margot
