‘They got the nerve to put a sensor on it’: Woman goes to T.J. Maxx. Then she catches them selling literal garbage

T.J. Maxx can be a popular destination for steals, quick items, and even fashion items. But, one woman saw something sitting on the shelf that didn’t look particularly appealing or even “new.”
TikToker Oddalisss (@yeeeerrrrrr) shared a find that seemingly shouldn’t be hanging on a rack, but conspicuously had a price tag and a sensor on it. After seeing a ragged, supposedly T.J. Maxx purse listed for $8 on sale, she decided to make a post urging them to just “throw it away.”
The purse, which Oddalisss highlighted in her post with over 23,000 views, had visible wear and tear. There were sections of faux leather entirely missing from the piece, with multiple rips and tears across the bag. Many commenters wondered how the purse even ended up on the rack in the first place, especially considering its condition. Others lamented that the purse was still available to purchase for $8 despite its obvious condition issues.
Why would T.J Maxx sell a purse that’s so clearly used?
Multiple commenters questioned the decision for T.J Maxx—a retailer that sells surplus products from name-brand companies—to put a clearly used or well-worn purse out for sale.
“I thought you were at the Goodwill,” one commenter said, while reflecting on the very obviously used purse. Others, too, thought it was out of place in the store.
However, some viewers came up with an explanation that could make sense. It’s possible another customer took one of their bags in the store and did a quick bag swap, walking out with a brand new bag that was on clearance while leaving their old one behind.
That didn’t explain how the bag ended up with a sensor on it, though. So, some viewers supplied additional theories. One viewer discussed the sensor, saying, “It’s on the strap. Easily removed and put on anything else.” Then, another said that an employee could have mistakenly put a price and sensor on the bag after seeing it on the rack, assuming that it was just a product that they needed to discount heavily.
Commenters try to explain the purse’s existence
Then, some thought the company purposefully put the product out. They cited some of the materials in bags and other fashion items as being of poor quality, eventually leading to products from T.J. Maxx breaking down over time.
“[A lot] of materials they are using are [of such] bad quality that they don’t last. They literally break down,” one commenter said.
T.J. Maxx derives a majority of its products from various retail brands, so it’s hard to say that any particular brand uses cheaper materials compared to other products. For the most part, TJX looks for authentic, name-brand products that generally use the exact same materials as others from their line.
Despite this, others claimed that it’s possible the bag came directly from T.J. Maxx, with viewers citing similar experiences in the makeup section and other departments. The T.J Maxx purse, then, isn’t the only damaged product that’s apparently being sold.
