In the visual posted to social media, a teaser for the official music video, Manon is not shown and there are five stuffed animals on a carousel. Fans who have been upset for a while about Manon’s hiatus from the group immediately felt like something was up. And, their suspicions appeared to be vindicated in short order.

Manon removed KATSEYE from her bio on social media, and it sent chaos through the fan-favorite group’s fandom. The performers are gearing up for a big  appearance at Coachella and the launch of “Pinky Up” was supposed to be a rallying cry for all the fans of this group. But, It’s hard to get completely excited for new music when one of their fellow girls is clearly having some sort of issue with either management or the group themselves. (They all still follow each other, so it’s unclear exactly what’s happening here.)

All that we know right now is that the Internet is ablaze with speculation. There are people who don’t believe Manon. Some folks who are boycotting any future releases by KATSEYE because of all this drama. There are folks peeking their heads into this situation without any prior knowledge of the group or their music. It’s a mess and it was entirely preventable. HYBE and Geffen Records are at the center of this firestorm. They have stated that Manan is on a hiatus and not expelled from the group. But, when you have people deleting stuff from their Instagram bios, folks are going to wonder.

KATSEYE and Manon figure out this hiatus situation

One thing about a 24 hour media cycle is that fans will latch on to small details like this and it becomes a bigger story than the release of a teaser for a massive supergroup. Manon probably knew that she was throwing a match onto a pile of kindling when she made the decision to take KATSEYE out of her bio. Either through label correspondence or a desire to make it easier on the girls still slated to perform at Coachella, she posted a message to Weverse.

In that short paragraph, Manon thanks the fans for their support and explains that she’s still communicating with HYBE and Geffen about what exactly the future looks like for her at this stage. Who knows how any of this is going to play out. But, it has undoubtedly cast a shadow over whatever’s going to happen with KATSEYE.

What’s going to happen?

“Thank you so much for all the love and support you’ve been sending my way. I’m really grateful for the patience and kindness everyone has shown during this time,” Manon told the fans. “HXG and I are having positive conversations and I feel supported. I’m happy and I’m healthy. I’ll share more soon. Thank you for always being there for me.”

Despite a positive update, it’s pretty clear that there’s going to be a level of discourse surrounding this group no matter what. KATSEYE is one of the bigger groups in Western music because of that global girl group moniker. If in fact the black member of this effort got ousted or had some sort of mistreatment because of her race, it’s a massive pop culture story. It would be nice to get clarity on what exactly happened and how they plan to move forward. But those answers aren’t coming right now. All we’ve got is speculation in Instagram bios to go off. Friends, this is entertainment discourse in 2026.
