‘A circus’: French Senator rips into Trump’s White House for its obsession with waging war

Donald Trump is shutting down the Kennedy Center for two years construction

Sen. Claude Malhuret from France delivered a scathing remark against Washington. His point wasn’t just to mock Trump’s cabinet but to explain that Europe, at this point in time, can only rely on itself where defense is concerned.

“A year ago, right here, I compared the Trump administration to the court of Nero. I was wrong—it’s the Court of Miracles,” Malhuret said in a speech to Parliament. For literary context, the ‘court of miracles’ (Cour des Miracles) is a reference to a 17th-century Parisian slum inhabited by lying criminals and thieves.

“An anti-vaxxer, a former heroin addict as secretary of health; a climate skeptic as the environment protection agency administrator; an alcoholic TV anchor as secretary of war; a former agent of Qatar as the secretary of justice; and a fan of Putin as secretary of national security,” Malhuret criticized. The insults are directed at RFK Jr., Lee Zeldin, Pete Hegseth, Pam Bondi, and, speculatively, Tulsi Gabbard.

“There’s a Turkish saying that goes, ‘When a clown lives in a palace, he does not become king. It is the palace that becomes a circus,'” the senator cited. He continued, “This great team created a competitor to the UN. Since the creation of the Board of Peace, Trump has triggered more military strikes than Biden has throughout his term.”

War as a distraction

“Every time that the Epstein case resurfaces, the bomb drops somewhere across the world and creates a distraction,” Malhuret alleges. It’s widely speculated by social media that the war is a distraction from the Epstein files. However, to hear a French senator state this claim in Parliament is embarrassing to the United States to say the least.

He would further accuse Trump and his family of profiting from the war. Malhuret argued that if this happened in France, it “would have caused an immediate procedure for impeachment.” Unfortunately, there are no corruption charges in the works. There are also not enough protests on the streets against the sitting president. As Trump continues to sit in the White House, the rest of the world burns.

The abandonment of allies

“After the customs finger-pointing, after Greenland, the abandonment of Ukraine, the humiliation of allies, the ineffective roundtrip to Venezuela, and so on, a new senseless adventure begins,” Malhuret says of the Iran war.

Although he clarified that he is not complaining about the beheading of the Iranian regime and that he wants freedom for the citizens, he questioned if the United States has a strategy. Several members in the US Congress and the Senate have been asking the same thing. What are the goals for this war, and is there a strategy in place? Those who rail against the war disagree.

Nevertheless, Malhuret believes that Europe can’t just disregard the war. He believes that France still has an obligation to defend its allies in the Gulf region that are under attack by Iran.

“The wars in Ukraine and the Middle East send us a simple and clear message: we can only count on ourselves,” Malhuret said. This is not just addressed to France but also to European allies. Because of the challenges Europe currently faces, Malhuret commended President Emmanuel Macron’s military budget increase.

The old world order has been shattered. With Trump’s America proving itself to be an unreliable entity, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see alliances shift in the next three years.
