Trump cries over Iran, says it’s ‘unfair’ that they are retaliating after he attacked them unprovoked

On February 28, 2026, Donald Trump joined forces with Benjamin Netanyahu and attacked Iran because he believed they were planning to attack the United States. While that remains debatable, Trump’s efforts in Iran since they first began continue, and if you go by what he has said during his speeches about the war, Trump has no intention of stopping efforts in the country until he achieves his goals, the specifics of which at the moment remain mostly unclear, although he has said that he wants “unconditional surrender.”
While Trump may have been making progress in Iran until recently, he faced a major setback just a few days ago when Iran decided to close the Strait of Hormuz, which is a key trade route between Iran and several other countries, with oil being one of the most important commodities traded along the route. Although Iran initially closed the route to all countries, recent news suggests they have reopened it for everyone except the US and its allies, including Israel, who are bombing them. This situation is putting immense pressure on the US economy, and Trump is now, through a surprising turn of events, left at the mercy of Iran.
Trump believes Iran should not retaliate against the US
On March 16, 2026, Donald Trump held a news conference in Washington, D.C., prior to a lunch meeting with members of the Trump Kennedy Centre board. During the event, he discussed the ongoing conflict with Iran and took questions from the press. In a particular moment from the conference that is going viral on social media platforms like X (formerly Twitter), Trump can be seen responding to a reporter who asked why the US was not opening the Strait of Hormuz, despite Trump claiming that it had destroyed all of Iran’s mine-laying ships.
Answering the question (well, not really), Trump went on a lengthy rant about how difficult it was to bring ships into the Strait of Hormuz, as the owners were sceptical about investing billions of dollars in the effort. Then, at one point, Trump quite shamelessly expressed surprise that Iran was retaliating by applying pressure to the US, as if it were breaking news that a country he was attacking was defending itself and striking back as well. His exact words in this context were, “So, it’s it’s uh little unfair. You know, you win a war, but they have no right to be doing what they’re doing.”
Trump also outed a fellow Republican’s medical diagnosis
During the same event, Donald Trump said several other problematic things, including revealing the medical diagnosis of a Republican-leaning House Representative, Neal Dunn. Speaking of his dedication to his job, regardless of his “terminal” illness, Trump revealed that he would have been “dead by June” if he hadn’t intervened with his medical team and provided help.
Mike Johnson, who was sitting right beside him and never speaks ill of him and defends him unquestionably, was also visibly uncomfortable when Trump callously blurted out Dunn’s condition. However, his system was reset to its default settings soon after Trump heavily patted him.
