20 Years Ago, He Won $35,996 on ‘The Price Is Right.’ He Also Walked Out of the Show With Someone Special
He didn't just win the game show. He also won in life.
Back in the day, television game shows would let random people compete in challenges that entailed life-changing sums of money. Ryan Clark (@ry.clark) became a contestant on the hit game show, The Price Is Right, 20 years ago. Not only did he win several prizes, but Clark also walked away with something more valuable than cash that day.
“Every day at 11:00 a.m., I had my ‘economics class,’ which was watching The Price Is Right,” Clark stated. He told TikTok that he was homeschooled as a child, and that the hit game show was his favorite. He knew the game, the prices of things, and he was a huge fan of the show’s host, Bob Barker. As a child, he hoped to one day see the show live.
“When I was 20, I was on this work trip in California, and we went to The Price Is Right taping,” he said. To see it live was his dream, but then he also got called as a contestant. He and several other contestants had to guess the price of a pair of goggles. Clark had the closest answer among the four, and he won the round. Clark was called on stage by Barker, and it was like a dream come true.
He made several memories at The Price Is Right
“I tell Bob that I was a student in college, that I was studying broadcasting,” he said. Barker apparently asked Clark what he wanted to do with his broadcasting degree, and Clark came clean as a fan to his idol.
“I want to be the next Bob Barker,” Clark said. In a surprising turn of events, Barker proceeded to hand the mic over to Clark. The host told Clark that he was going to let the college student make his debut. Barker even played along with the act, pretending to be the contestant instead.
“Bob Barker, are you ready to win big today?” Barker acted like an eager contestant as a response. Clark continued the announcement, “Well, all of us want you to, too. Show ’em what’s behind those doors!” When the curtain parted, a new car was revealed.
Barker, on the other hand, wore a big smile as the younger Clark hopped around in excitement on stage. Clark proceeded to play the mini-game, ‘Let ‘Em Roll,’ which meant he could either win the money or the car. While he didn’t win the car in this segment, he spun the wheel and got $1,000 out of the mini-game.
He won at life
He waited for the ‘Showcase Showdown’ segment, where he had to guess the price of his opponent’s showcase and vice versa. Clark’s estimate was just off by $4,386, making him the winner of the game show. By the end of it, he won $35,996 from The Price Is Right.
“It is the craziest day of my life,” Clark said. But he didn’t only make memories and a ton of cash. He continued, “One of the people that ran up on stage at the end? We were working together that week. She’s now my wife.” Clark also said that they’ve now been together for fourteen years. It seems that his story is just as much of a movie as this New York City woman, who found the love of her life on Hinge after a hike and a cross-country move.
Bob Barker passed in 2023, though we always remember the important piece of advice he gave at the end of every episode.
