Is Harrison Ford Ready to Retire?

Across decades and a number of iconic roles like Han Solo and Indiana Jones, Harrison Ford has become a one-of-a-kind part of the entertainment industry. The 83-year-old actor also hasn’t slowed down in recent years, between reprising both of those aforementioned roles in recent legacy sequels, joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Captain America: Brave New World, and starring in the Apple TV+ series Shrinking.
Based on recent comments made by the actor, it sounds like he might be thinking ahead to the future. During a recent press day for Apple TV and its programming, Ford argued that if Shrinking ended up being the last project of his career, that would be “sufficient” for him.
“Where do you go from here?” Ford argued (via The Hollywood Reporter). “The kind of work that we’re able to do is remarkable given the tools we have to work with, and the notion that lies behind this series. And if it was all over here, that would be sufficient. This has been a different kind of job for me, and I’ve been doing this for a long time. This is very special and it really nurtures me and makes me feel like what we’re doing has value and importance. I look for that in my life and I’m happy to have found it here.”
Is this an official confirmation that Ford will be retiring once Shrinking inevitably draws to a close? No. But it’s definitely noteworthy that the actor is thinking about his onscreen future. Just a mere six months ago, he’d argued a version of the opposite, telling Variety that he would never retire because, “they need old people, too, to play old people’s parts.” But given how Shrinking has resonated with audiences (especially in its currently-ongoing third season) and the awards nominations that Ford has gotten along the way, it could very well be a high note to end on.
