‘He’d rather design a ballroom’: People furious as Trump says he didn’t find healthcare to be of ‘tremendous interest’
Donald Trump’s second term as the President of the United States has been quite chaotic. While it has been a presidency filled with action, certainly more than what Americans have experienced during previous presidencies, it isn’t necessarily the most beneficial for them. It kicked off with immigration crackdowns, neglect of healthcare, and then moved on to tariff policies, cuts to SNAP benefits, and military actions in foreign countries.
Donald Trump has again landed on one of the things he had vowed to destroy at the beginning of 2025: American healthcare. For anyone needing a refresher: throughout almost the entirety of last year, he had fought tooth and nail with the Democrats to ensure that Obamacare was not renewed, even forcing the government into a shutdown until they complied with his demands.
Trump is discussing healthcare again, but not from a place of concern that one would expect from the leader of one of the largest nations in the world; rather, from a position of extreme privilege and thoughtlessness. In a recent video that has gone viral on social media platforms, particularly on X (formerly Twitter), Trump is seen discussing healthcare in an exceptionally unkind manner. During a press conference aired on Fox News in January this year, he remarked that he did not find healthcare particularly interesting, although he acknowledged that it was “important.” His exact words were:
But one thing I’ve learned, I’ve learned a lot about health care. I found health care sort of like not of tremendous interest, but it was very important.”
Trump’s comments regarding a vital necessity for American citizens clearly did not sit well with those who have been struggling with medical health costs and rising insurance prices for a long time. While some people considered Trump tone-deaf for his comments, others believed that it was normal for him to say something like that. Yet others, especially Trump’s dedicated MAGA followers, took the opportunity to praise the president and appreciate him for his efforts while completely ignoring his insensitive remarks featured in the video. Some of them even cursed Biden and his administration and Obama and his administration, highlighting that they had led to the disintegration of the American healthcare system while completely disregarding the fact that Donald Trump and his administration had not really done anything to “fix” it, despite saying for months that they would.
