‘An absolute embarrassment’: Trump’s ‘tough on China’ act crumbles as he cozies up to Xi, claiming a vague promise

Throughout the span of his second term and his first as President of the United States, Donald Trump has maintained a very anti-China stance, publicly criticising the country and its president on numerous occasions. However, it seems like Trump, now faced with challenges, is reconsidering his approach and seeking to establish a more positive relationship with China.

Since becoming president this year, Donald Trump has been involved in a trade war with China. In an effort to win the battle, Trump imposed a nearly 100 per cent tariff on Chinese imports of US goods, making it almost impossible for them to buy American products. China retaliated by not purchasing items such as soybeans and beef, of which they are the largest importers. Their decision, in turn, led to fluctuating prices of these items in American markets as people associated with these economies were trying to recover costs due to poor sales. Quite naturally, all of this agitated the American people, and they blamed Donald Trump and his stringent tariff policies for their condition. The situation turned so bad that even the most dedicated MAGAs turned against Trump and admitted to having made a mistake by voting for him during the previous elections.

Now, after facing so much flak, Donald Trump is working to fix what he has broken. In a recent press interaction, Trump revealed that he had asked President Xi Jinping to buy American agricultural products, to which he had “agreed.” Additionally, he mentioned that he urged Xi to increase the quantity of purchases and expedite the process, to which he “more or less agreed.” He also claimed that he had a “great” relationship with Xi and that they both have a mutual liking for each other.

Donald Trump’s comments regarding China and President Xi Jinping have sparked extensive discussions online. One user on X (formerly Twitter) wrote:

“Wow. Trump is an absolute embarrassment to himself and ALL Americans. Xi manipulates this dope at will, and has AT LEAST 50 IQ points on Trump, lol. This is EXACTLY how Trump lost the LAST idiotic trade war he started during his first term.”

Another individual wrote:

“Trump is always promising some great outcome in the future. It never pans out. He learned he can grift as much as he wants by conning the press and public. He makes up shit on the fly. He implies others are going to do things. Never verified, just blowing smoke. The con man found out long ago he never has to do anything, just blame others when things don’t work out.”
