Woman Wanted to Use Hotel’s Restroom Before Dining at Their Restaurant, But Allegedly Gets Called ‘The Public’—So She Exposes Their Restroom Instead

A luxury hotel didn't feel luxurious.

A woman had hoped to spend time with her family over drinks and desserts at a famous New York landmark, only for her experience to turn sour—all because of a restroom. TikTok content creator Amira (@amiramarie.xo) shared what she claimed was lackluster hospitality by hotel staff and amenities at The Plaza Hotel.

In her video, Amira alleges that she and her family wanted to eat dessert after a shopping trip, and chose The Plaza Hotel as it was on the same street. “We walk in, and everything is great. The bellman at the door was respectful; we walked into the lobby, and there’s this beautiful floral arrangement,” Amira said.

Amira recalled that she and her family decided to use the restroom first after seeing that the restaurant had no hostess in sight. According to Amira, they left their things at a table before going to the restroom, but a hotel staff member had stopped them from using the restroom. The TikToker added that the staff member told them “it wasn’t available to the public.”

Hotel’s restroom was allegedly not as luxurious

Amira noted that she and her family were told that only guests staying at the hotel or dining at their restaurant were permitted to use their facilities. She claimed that they had informed the hotel staff member of their intention to dine at the restaurant, but just wanted to use the restroom while they waited for the hostess.

if you’re going to chase us down over using a bathroom, at least ensure your bathroom is clean ?! #theplazahotel #theplazanyc #theplazahotelnyc #theplazarestaurant #hotelreview

The TikToker alleges that the hotel staff member insisted they go to the restaurant to check in with the hostess. “So we go back to the hostess stand, and there’s still nobody there. So much so that he runs back over and is like, ‘Let me go get the hostess,’ cause there’s nobody there,” Amira said. “You’re making this big deal about us checking in when you don’t even have somebody to check us in.”

According to Amira, the hostess asked if they had a reservation despite the restaurant being empty. After getting seated, Amira said the group was finally able to use the restroom. However, Amira claimed that the restroom wasn’t as luxurious or clean as the rest of the hotel.

“You would think that if you’re gonna make such a big deal about my family using your restroom and referring to us as ‘the public,’ that that bathroom would be clean and pristine, right?” Amira said. “You have missing tiles, you have staining all over the tiles, you have a dehumidifier in your bathroom.”

Amira noted that the grout lines in the restroom looked like they hadn’t been cleaned in years as well. “It’s hilarious to make a big deal about ‘the public’ using your bathroom,” Amira said. She noted that the hotel was also missing essentials like toilet paper and soap in both the men’s and women’s restrooms.

Plaza Hotel allegedly offered to assist with Amira’s future reservation

According to Amira, she and her family notified the hotel’s management regarding the state of their restrooms. She allegedly decided not to dine at the restaurant due to hygiene concerns. “I was really excited to eat at The Plaza Hotel before I saw the state of that disgusting bathroom,” she said.

Upon seeing the photos Amira shared, many users were left disgusted that a well-known, five-star luxury hotel didn’t maintain their facilities. “I always say a bathroom tells you everything… even in someone’s house!” one commenter said. “And that’s an air purifier, which means the bathroom has a foul smell they can’t get rid of.” Others defended the hostess, noting that asking for reservations before being seated is normal practice in the service industry.

On Amira’s Instagram, the content creator claimed that The Plaza Hotel’s manager emailed her in response to the video. They allegedly thanked her for her feedback regarding the property’s condition and apologized for her experience as well.

“I apologize for the lapses in services and product that you experienced. Rest assured that I have personally reviewed these concerns with our team for training and resolution,” the hotel allegedly stated. “This is certainly not indicative of the high level of service we strive to provide our guests.” The creator added that management also offered to personally assist her with their future reservation.
