Who doesn’t love Chippendales, the all-male burlesque troupe that’s been performing stripteases for audiences worldwide since 1979? Welcome to Chippendales, Hulu’s new series premiering later this fall, tells the true story of Chippendales and its founder, Somen “Steve” Banerjee—and reveals the sordid history of arson and murder behind the nightclub’s success.

Plot
According to Hulu, Welcome to Chippendales is “a sprawling true-crime saga” that “tells the outrageous story of Somen ‘Steve’ Banerjee, an Indian immigrant who became the unlikely founder of the world’s greatest male-stripping empire—and let nothing stand in his way in the process.” Based on the book Deadly Dance: The Chippendales Murders, the plot of the series will follow Banerjee from his humble beginnings as a convenience store worker to the jealous and violent mastermind behind Chippendales. The real life Banerjee burned down several nightclubs and hired a hit man to murder his business partner Nick de Noia, and the series will presumably portray those events.

Hulu has released both a teaser and a full length trailer for Welcome to Chippendales.
In the teaser, we see Banerjee living the life of luxury that he’s worked hard for, and butting up against his business partner. We also see a shotgun lying on the floor beside a bed, hinting at Banerjee’s murder plot.
The full length official trailer goes deeper into Banerjee’s beginnings, showing him longing to become an entrepreneur as he works in the gas station convenience store. We also see the FBI getting involved in Banerjee’s murder plot. Both of the trailers highlight the Chippendales dancers themselves, although it seems clear that they won’t be the crime drama’s main attraction.
Cast
Kumail Nanjiani (Eternals, The Big Sick, Silicon Valley) stars as Somen Banerjee. Murray Bartlett (Looking, The White Lotus) plays Chippendales choreographer and business partner Nick De Noia, while Annaleigh Ashford (Masters of Sex) plays Somen’s wife Irene. Juliette Lewis (Yellowjackets, Natural Born Killers) plays Denise, a Chippendales fan who gets close to Nick.
Release date
Welcome to Chippendales premieres on Tuesday, November 22, 2022. The series will consist of 8 episodes, released weekly until January 3, 2023.
