Mark Wahlberg as Father Stuart "Stu" Long in Father Stu

When Is the Release Date for Mark Wahlberg’s ‘Father Stu’ Biopic?

Very soon, viewers will get to see Mark Wahlberg portray Father Stuart “Stu” Long in Father Stu. The film is a biopic about Father Stu, who was a boxer before he entered the Priesthood. This is a film close to Wahlberg’s heart, as the actor has been very open about his Catholic faith. Furthermore, he has already proved his devotion by financing the film with his own money.

Wahlberg came across the true story of Father Stu while he was out to dinner with two priests. The story immediately resonated with him, and he saw it as an opportunity to make his work more meaningful. Hence, he began developing the film in 2016, alongside Rosalind Ross who penned the script and signed on as director.

The film follows Long, an amateur boxer hailing from Montana, who moves to LA in hopes of launching an acting career. While there, he meets a Sunday school teacher and begins attending church to impress her. However, his life takes a dramatic turn when he is involved in a serious motorcycle accident. Long survives and finds himself with a newfound desire to become a priest. The film explores his transition into the Catholic Priesthood, as well as his struggles with Inclusion Body Myositis—an inflammatory and degenerative muscle disease.

When does Father Stu release?

The release date for Father Stu is upon us! Father Stu is set to release theatrically on April 13th, 2022. It is rather unusual for a film to premiere on a Wednesday rather than a Friday, but this date prevents Father Stu from premiering on the same day as Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore. Additionally, its release date intentionally coincides with Holy Week. This sacred week is observed in the Christian religion and marks the time period between Palm Sunday and Easter.
