Kayleigh McEnany speaks in front of the White House logo during a press briefing.

Does Anyone Have Less Self-Awareness Than Kayleigh McEnany?

As a beneficiary of the Trump administration-to-Fox News pipeline, former press secretary Kayleigh McEnany is able to use the network to spout the same sorts of fact-free drivel she used to deliver from the White House briefing room.

McEnany is now a co-host of Outnumbered, which features a rotating panel of cohosts made up of four women and one man in order to prove sexism isn’t real or something (I don’t know). On Wednesday, the panel discussed the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine and McEnany took the opportunity to criticize Joe Biden with a level of hypocrisy that is truly beyond parody.

McEnany accused Biden of taking too long in his response to the crisis, in everything from issuing sanctions to being late to give a speech yesterday.

“Delay seems to be modus operandi for this administration,” McEnany said. “Delay in response, delay in sanctions, delay in sending the MiGs, delay in everything and it just makes you wonder, why? We’re supposed to be the leaders on the world stage.”

Does she really not remember that “delay” in sending aid to Ukraine was one of the reasons her old boss was impeached?

As a reminder, the first article of impeachment filed against Trump in his first impeachment was over his attempts to leverage military assistance in exchange for political favors from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Even though the aid was eventually delivered to Ukraine, the delay in doing so was incredibly damaging.

At the time, the U.S.’s top diplomat in Ukraine, William Taylor, said Trump’s “delay put Ukrainian lives in danger.” And Dr. Fiona Hill, a former top presidential advisor on Europe and Russia who made a huge impression at the impeachment hearings, testified publicly that the delay “absolutely” sent a signal that the U.S. was not a reliable ally to Ukraine and that that could “embolden” Putin and Russia to act more “aggressively.”

Glad to know someone in the Trump administration has finally caught on that “delay” is an issue when it comes to issuing assistance to Ukraine. Good job, Kayleigh!
