Bill Murray is an actor who has graced our screens for decades, and many of us have different movies from his filmography that we’ve loved for as long as we can remember. Now one of the Wes Anderson darlings, Murray is still an incredibly busy man at the age of 71, and that doesn’t seem to be stopping anytime soon. He’s been in this business for a really long time and is a pro when it comes to keeping secrets and not spilling details.
But even he isn’t safe from the fear of Marvel. In a recent interview promoting The French Dispatch, he said, “You know, recently I made a Marvel movie,” instantly seeming to regret what he said. Quickly, he followed it up with: “I probably won’t tell you, but never mind.” That’s not all, though. In the interview, which Variety translated from German with Google translate, Murray seemed to give away which Marvel project in complimenting the director.
“In any case, some people were quite surprised why I decided on such a project,” Murray said, “but for me, the thing was quite clear: I got to know the director — and really liked him very much. He was funny, humble, everything you want from a director.”
Variety went on to say that while Murray didn’t name that director, he did reference “the cheerleader story, Bring It On” as a “damn good film” that was part of what convinced him, which is telling seeing as Peyton Reed directed Bring It On and is directing Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.
Bill Murray isn’t staying with Marvel past Quantumania, though
Murray isn’t playing someone who is going to be staying in the MCU, though. He went on to comment on his role by saying that he likes the director, did a Marvel, and that’s enough for him. “Let’s put it this way: the director is a good guy, and now I’ve at least tried out what it’s like to shoot a Marvel movie,” Murray told Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung when they asked if he regrets joining the superhero film trend. “But I don’t think I need that experience a second time.”
So, could he be just someone briefly in the film? Sure. I’m hoping that Murray is playing Bob Lang (the father of Scott Lang) because seeing Paul Rudd and Bill Murray as father and son just feels like something I want and need in my life, but at least this continues to be the film series within the Marvel Cinematic Universe that we can always rely on for a great and funny time.
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, or…oooOOOOoooo as we like to call it, is the third film for Paul Rudd’s Scott Lang, and we can’t wait to see what this movie explores for Scott, Cassie, Hope, and the rest of our favorites in San Francisco! And now, I guess, Bill Murray as well.
