With only about two weeks to go until the new season of Marvel’s Jessica Jones drops on Netflix, we’ve got one more trailer to enjoy. The new Season Two trailer opens with Jessica in anger management, hurling a ball at the wall and reciting what has happened to her. As we often see with Jessica, she’s struggling between the need to acknowledge and process her trauma, and her frustration at the tedious, vulnerable work that this sort of self-understanding requires. “I’ll start at the beginning,” she says. “My whole family was killed in a car accident. Someone did horrific experiments on me. I was abducted, raped, and forced to kill someone. And I’m in here. Bouncing. A goddamn. Ball.”
And how does she feel afterwards?
“Still angry.”
Though it includes a few new shots, this trailer mostly builds on the themes we saw in the trailer from a few weeks ago. “Knowing what was done to you might help you,” Trish says, but Jessica’s not convinced. “What if facing it makes me worse?” she replies. And as star Krysten Ritter told Entertainment Weekly back in December, “Jessica is in a pretty dark headspace when we meet her at the top of season 2 … I think what we can say is that what we’ve done again is kept the story very personal. If season 1 was in her head and in her mind, then season 2 will be more in her heart. This season is more emotional.”
However, here in this trailer we also get to see some footage from the first season and The Defenders, reminding us where Jessica’s been and what she’s dealt with. And as much as we’ve seen her grow and learn, it looks like she’s still struggling with the same mental health question: does she keep denying and burying what’s haunting her, or do something about it?
