"It may not have done well at the box office but it broke the all-time record for the number of film geeks insisting it's genius."

With Denis Villeneuve’s  Blade Runner 2049 getting great reviews for its breathtaking visuals, Honest Trailers decided to dive into the original landmark film’s (or films if you consider the numerous cuts). The main theme appears to be making some slight fun of the occasionally pretentious adoration people have for the film. If you look at the comments wow people get really defensive about Blade Runner, but even Honest Trailers can’t knock Rutger Hauer’s performance. “This ain’t your Daddy’s bright and shiny Sci-Fi,” the video says, “this one has rain and cigs and hookers and stuff.”

“In 1982, audiences knew Harrison Ford as the charming, rogue Hans Solo or the charming, rogue Indiana Jones. Now, watch him ditch the whole charming act in the grumpiest Harrison Ford performance since…anytime he’s forced to promote a movie.” Side note: the GQ interview here is one of many incredible stops Ford made for Blade Runner 2049, they are all amazing.

The best line? “Enjoy this story that sees so clearly into the future predicting our modern anxieties about genetic engineering, corporate ownership and Ridley Scott’s Unicorn fetish. It may not have done well at the box office but it broke the all-time record for the number of film geeks insisting it’s genius.”
