Bless CBS Sitcom Mom For Donating Their Emmys Campaign Money to Planned Parenthood

The Emmys are coming, which means it’s time to prepare for an onslaught of campaign ads from various TV shows. In the coming weeks, you’ll be hit with posters, ads between articles and publicity stunts, all in an effort to take home that coveted trophy. Thinking about the amount of money that goes into this can be nauseating … unless you’re a fan of the CBS sitcom, Mom.

Creator Chuck Lorre (Cybill, Two and a Half Men and The Big Bang Theory) and star Allison Janney announced that instead of dropping $250,000 on promotion for the TV awards show, they’re donating those funds to Planned Parenthood. This couldn’t come at a better time as Congress voted to overturn President Obama’s protections for Title X organizations like this one.

“In Los Angeles County alone, we answer approximately 2,000 calls each day from people asking us for help,” Planned Parenthood L.A. CEO Sue Dunlap said, according to The Hollywood Reporter. “Across the country, millions of women and men are relying on Planned Parenthood health centers for their basic care—like birth control, life-saving cancer-screenings, and STD testing and treatment. We are committed to being here for them, no matter what. Generous support from our community fuels this work, and we are honored that the team behind Mom is launching this campaign at this critical time.”

It’s funny that when conservatives argue for defunding Planned Parenthood, the only thing they can talk about is abortion which only accounts for 3% of its services and only uses private funds for that. It’s almost as though they don’t understand what the organization does—or, if they do, they don’t care as long as they get to find an excuse to punish poor women for existing. Hmm …
