[VIDEO]: Anne Hathaway and Director Nacho Vigalondo Talk Colossal As Hathaway Becomes a TMS Fan!

I’ve already told you about how awesome the film Colossal is, and if you have a chance to see it this weekend, you really, really should. Now, in an exclusive interview for TMS, you can check out my conversation with the talented Anne Hathaway and the film’s writer/director, Nacho Vigalondo, about this truly unique film in the video above!

When asked where the story of the film—which is basically a kaiju movie disguised as an indie film—came from, Vigalondo talked about growing up in a small town in Spain, and how much of this film is about his own relationships with the big city he currently calls home and the small town where he grew up.

Meanwhile, I spoke with Hathaway about her character, Gloria, who is exactly the kind of Nuanced Female Character more screenwriters should write. She said she was grateful to receive this unique script after reading and doing a lot of “really pretty” films where a woman’s biggest problem is that she “doesn’t make the coffee right.”

Also, it was lovely to learn that Vigalondo is a huge fan of The Mary Sue. Before the interview, he talked about loving the site, and when Hathaway asked about it, having not read us before, I explained what we do and where the site name comes from, and she was immediately enamored. We’re thrilled to have made a new fan! Especially since we’re huge fans of their new film.

Colossal is in theaters NOW.
