Deleted Fantastic Beasts Scene Introduces Us to a New On-Screen Character

Neat.

J.K. Rowling may have wrapped up Harry Potter’s story, but her beloved wizarding world continues to thrive thanks to active projects like the Pottermore website and the play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. More recently, the film Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (which stars Eddie Redmayne as Newt Scamander) introduced us to magic in America, as well as a flurry of new on-screen characters like the adorable trouble-making niffler.

A new deleted scene reveals yet another previously unseen creature on the big screen—the Runespoor. The three-headed snake hails from the small country in West Africa called Burkina Faso. According to Rowling folklore, they’ve long been associated with dark wizards, automatically raising suspicions as to how Scamander got his hands on one, let alone two of them. How do you think they came to be in his care? And why is one so abnormally large? Was it something in the water?

While I don’t have answers to those questions just yet, I do know that Fantastic Beasts will be the first of five films and that Johnny Depp (ugh) is set to co-star in the sequel. For now, just in enjoy this first film, which includes excepts from the Ilvermorny school song and a wonderfully devious Colin Farrell running about the streets of New York City in 1926.
