Did Woody Harrelson Just Confirm His Role in the Young Han Solo Movie?

Recommended Videos

Speculation was rampant after the announcement that Woody Harrelson was cast in the Han Solo movie with descriptions calling his role an “early mentor” to Han Solo.

One specific character than some thought Harrelson would fit is Garris Shrike, an EU character. Shrike is a former bounty hunter who turned to crime with a group of orphans he used, including Han Solo. According to Wookieepedia, he “rescued Solo from the streets, raised him, trained him, and beat his profusely when aggravated.” While probably not a positive one, that definitely sounds like a mentor-type character important to Han’s development.

When asked in an interview at the Sundance Film Festival for Wilson whether he would be playing mentor Garris Shrike, Harrelson, instead of dodging the question like we would expect him to, simply says yes. However, Lucasfilm Story Group member Pablo Hidalgo tweeted cryptically and planted some doubt as the whether of not the actor was confirming the name, rather than the description.

What do you think? Misheard question or damage control?
