Couple Plans Intimate Cancun Resort Wedding, Then Realizes It’s Not as Small and Private as Expected: ‘Had a Massive Audience’

With how expensive a wedding can be these days, small weddings have become popular as only your closest friends and family witness your special day. But for one couple, their plans for an intimate wedding at a Cancun resort got derailed when they realized they had unintentionally booked a venue next to a swimming pool filled with resort guests.
Liz Ferrigno (@itslizferrigno), the bride’s makeup artist, shared a peek at the couple’s wedding at Dreams Natura Resort & Spa in Cancun, Mexico, on TikTok. In the video, wedding guests can be seen sitting on the beach, just a few feet away from the shoreline, as the ceremony begins with the bridal and groom party entering.
“POV: You’re at a small intimate wedding in Cancun,” Ferrigno wrote in the on-screen text as she panned the camera to show the decorated venue. A few seconds later, Ferrigno turned the camera to show viewers the back of the ceremony.
The bride couldn’t change her venue at the last minute
“But… you have a massive audience too lol,” the on-screen text said, as viewers got a view of a pool just a few steps away from the ceremony, filled with bathing suit-clad resort guests of all ages swimming around and eagerly watching the ceremony from the pool’s edge. “The whole resort was watching,” Ferrigno said in her caption.
While the wedding did bring in unexpected spectators, it does make for a rather interesting story to tell in the future, like the time a bride nearly missed her own wedding after getting summoned to jury duty. The bride, Jayci Burns, shared that they weren’t aware the swimming pool was that close to where their nuptials were held.
“lol bride here!! wasn’t aware it was this close to the pool until I was sent an aerial view 2 weeks before our wedding!!,” Burns said in a comment under Ferrigno’s video. “I was told it was too late to change at that point.”
According to Ferrigno, the actual wedding had around 50 or 60 guests invited to join the couple’s special day. But with the pool’s location, the total number of guests increased by “30 people or more,” Ferrigno told PEOPLE.
With strangers basically invited to the wedding at that point, it’s only natural to be concerned about a possible disturbance from pool-goers during the ceremony. But fortunately for the bride, she didn’t have to worry about anything.

“Everyone was very respectful and in the moment I wasn’t even bothered!” Burns said in her comment. Ferrigno agreed, saying, “They were very respectful and quiet during the ceremony. Then cheered and clapped at the end. It was really sweet.”
Viewers were left amused by the wedding’s extra guests, and even poked fun at the incident. “25 guests and 500 of your closest strangers,” one commenter wrote. “’Do you take this man’…..’MARCO…POOOLOOO’ ‘to be your lawfully wedded..’” another joked.
Others praised the pool guests for being respectful of the ceremony. “I mean have to admit they are all locked in. Not even a single kid screaming,” a commenter said. “Everyone being on their best behavior has me SCREEEEEAMING.”
Some even shared their own experience of witnessing a wedding while chilling at the pool, saying, “Omg I watched a wedding from that same pool.” However, others criticized the resort for putting the wedding venue in such proximity to the pool. “That is SO WEIRD. the hotel property needs to move their wedding arch somewhere away from the f****** pool,” one said.
According to Ferrigno, the real wedding guests found the entire incident amusing. Luckily, the reception party was more intimate, as there were “less people in the pool,” the makeup artist said.
