Netflix Fully Embraces Their Role in an Eerie Future for Creepy Black Mirror Ad

Netflix is really into their off-beat advertisements lately (see: French Onion Barb Soup), and a recent commercial for “Netflix Vista” is a perfect representation of the dark tone and humor of Black Mirror.

The video first asks, “What do you love most in life?” and “What if the things you love could always be with you?” which sounds all well and good until you realize the vista is an implant/contact combo that lets you watch Netflix all the time–while you’re working out, at the beach, or even holding a dying loved one’s hand. It’s not a bad gizmo, but the short clip is full of people ignoring the world around them and losing out on real-life experiences.

It’s evocative of the recording implant in “The Entire History of You,” where we see Toby Kebbell and Jodie Whittaker’s characters’ relationship unravel and implode when the technology magnifies their little suspicions and already-existing problems. Black Mirror fans will also recognize the song, Irma Thomas’ “Anyone Who Knows What Love Is” as the tune Jessica Brown Findlay’s character sings in “Fifteen Million Merits.” If you catch any other easter eggs, let us know in the comments!

Not gonna lie, a Netflix Vista doesn’t sound too horrible, since those long commutes can get pretty dull. What do you think?
