LGBT Streaming App REVRY Offers the “Queerated” Content You’ve Been Waiting For

Recommended Videos

Damian Pelliccione, upon seeing a lack of LGBT streaming apps, decided to create one himself. In an interview with The Daily Dot, Pellicione talks about creating REVRY, the world’s first LGBT streaming content platform which currently holds nearly 200 hours of licensed content.

This “queerated” content consists of titles like Capitol Hill, Unsure/Positive, and Cooking With Drag Queens. You can also find podcasts like Homoground, talk shows like Boys in Tech, and a generous amount of webseries. Just browsing some of the shows, To Sit With Her, a short film about trans man Leon Wu’s pilgrimage to rural Taiwan to visit his grandmother, caught my eye.

Pellicione adds they’re also working on bringing original series to REVRY as well, not unlike the Netflix model. This fall, for instance, you’ll be able to catch a show about the LA drag ball scene and another series about the lives of female inmates after leaving prison.

The CEO says, “We’re on-boarding 10–20 hours of new content each month, and that’s a lot. It tells you there’s a huge need for this platform.”

He also adds that REVRY will work with both independent projects and big production houses. Pelliccione notes that there’s more diversity to be had among LGBT content as well, saying “There’s millions of people like me who are dying to see their stories told. A lot of other projects have focused too much on just white gay men. Our mandate is to include every part of LGBTQ: black, Latino, Asian, people with disabilities … every point of view we want to see represented in media.”

Proving again that LGBT content is indeed profitable, the interview also mentions that traffic for REVRY is high, with viewers in over 50 countries—including ones where it’s, sadly, still illegal to be gay. For more about the platform, check out the full interview at The Daily Dot. REVRY is available on Apple TV, Google Chromecast, Roku, and iOS and Android smartphone, with a free 30-day trial.
