If you’ve been watching Stranger Things on Netflix, you’ve probably recognized a lot of homage to ’80s movies, or at least experienced that nostalgic twang that transferred you back into your bicycling in the forest days. The team put in a lot of effort to recreate the ’80s, from an extremely detailed prop master to a synth-filled, Carpenter-esque score, to visual homages that definitely paid off.
Vimeo user Ulysse Thevenon has put scenes from Stranger Things next to moments from The Goonies, Alien, E.T the Extra-Terrestrial, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Stand By Me, and more to show how many references the series makes to many of these classics. If you scroll down to the comments, lots of viewers have pointed out other film allusions or overlapping tropes in the Duffer Brothers show which demonstrates just how much of a tribute Stranger Things is to these stories.
