A woman from Houston shares how her date canceled on her after she replied to his message in less than ten minutes.
In a video she posted on TikTok, @ebonyy_monique (Ebony) is getting ready for a date she’s excited about. As she talks about what she’s wearing, which happens to be her favorite outfit for dates, her video cuts. When she shows up again, she’s explaining that her date canceled, and the reason is pretty “ambiguous.”

Ebony’s video is divided into two parts separated by a small cut. When she appeared for the second part, she informed her audience that her date had canceled on her while she was filming. She explained that, while she was making a video about her going on a date with this man, he had texted her to say he was on his way. However, she noted that she couldn’t see the text immediately because she was filming. She said he texted her at 11:56, and she responded at 12:04.

After Ebony texted the guy, he told her he wouldn’t be going on the date, as he believed there was a communication gap between them. When Ebony mentions this in the video, she shows a screenshot of his message, which reads: “I just went the opposite way so respectfully imma pass today. The big communication gaps are a little too ambiguous for me.”
Since her date was no longer happening, Ebony said in the video that she would be taking herself out instead and added, “I can’t make this shi* up.”
People in the comments section are showing support for Ebony
Some people in the comments section of Ebony’s post focused on the fact that she responded to her date’s message within ten minutes, which they believed was acceptable. They thought her date’s reaction was unnecessary. A few others were just teasing Ebony’s date and calling him problematic.

The source notes that this conclusion was reached after analyzing the results from the National Dating Landscape Survey(2025), which is a nationally representative sample of 5,275 unmarried young adults in their prime dating years (between the ages of 22 and 35) in the United States.
Some highlights of this study include the following: Three-quarters of women (74%) and almost two-thirds of men (64%) in the survey said they had not dated or had dated only a few times in the past year. Among the upcoming generation, there is low dating confidence, with only about one in three young adults expressing strong confidence in their dating skills.
