Kit Harington, the actor who plays that character that Knows Nothing, will apparently be taking on a brand new type of role in Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare. Harington will be playing the game’s primary antagonist, where he’ll likely be bringing some of that soft intensity that goes into his other roles. You can watch him getting facial scans above for his in-game self. Infinity Ward’s narrative director, Taylor Kurosaki, shared the news in a press release. Said Kurosaki:
Our story is about an epic showdown of opposing forces, and Kit immersed himself into the role and truly became the embodiment of the enemy, the Settlement Defense Front. We can’t wait for fans to see Kit play an entirely different kind of character.
Call of Duty games have a reputation for being a bit trope-ridden and stereotypical of action games and movies. They often feature over-the-top action rivaling a Michael Bay movie while featuring characters who exist on extreme ends of the “good” and “evil” spectrum. A few games have their fairly subversive angles (for their time at least); the twist ending in Modern Warfare 2 immediately comes to mind. But often, the games tend to become caricatures of themselves, and I don’t expect Infinite Warfare to be too much different.
That being said, Harington seems to be the latest in a line of top name actors being brought into the world of video games. The last installment, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, featured a pretty star-studded lineup. Kevin Spacey played the game’s eventual antagonist, and the game’s “Exo Zombies” mode featured work from John Malkovich, Rose McGowan, Jon Bernthal, Bill Paxton, and Bruce Campbell.
There’s no word yet on any other stars who might be joining Harington for his tour, but one supposes that it’ll be a pretty interesting cast.
