Supergirl Season 2 Cast Explodes With New Characters

Now that Supergirl is coming back for a second season on The CW, Berlanti Productions is wasting no time in getting stories written and broadening the world of National City. Not only is Superman himself finally going to appear on the show (with a face!), but other characters from inspired by Superman’s comics will be making appearances.

OK, so Lex Luthor himself may not be in the cards (yet?), but we will be getting a member of the Luthor family in town. As reported by TV Line, Lex’s sister Lena Luthor will be a new regular character on Supergirl. The show is currently casting someone in the 25-35 range, and Lena is said to have moved to National City to get out from under the shadow of her brother. She’s also described as “sexy and smart and determined to get what she wants. But what does she want?” What, indeed? It would be interesting if, rather than going down the villain route for her, that they had Lena and Kara become allies.

Also, did she have to be sexy and smart? I mean, how important is it that she be described that way for the stories they’re going to be telling? *sigh* Then again, they ARE moving to The CW…

Sexy Supergirl NOPE

Also being added to the cast as a regular role is Nick Farrow, the son of a famous reporter who comes to work at CatCo and is “looking to make a name for himself in the news world but the question of whether he can leave behind his former selfish and hedonistic ways will constantly arise. In hanging out with Kara, the hero in Nick might finally come out.” Mmmkay. I have zero opinion about that either way, except that I hope he’s not yet another dude who’ll fall head-over-heels in love with Kara. She has Jimmy now and Winn is over her. No more love triangles for a good long while, please!

Because believe it or not, it is possible for women to inspire men regardless of whether or not men find those women attractive.

In recurring character news, we’ll also be introduced to The Doctor. No, not that Doctor. This one is the female head of Project Cadmus, where Jeremiah Danvers is being held. She’s described as “diabolical,” and she apparently “uses her surgical skills to implant prisoners with alien technology.” Sounds like fun at parties.

We’re going to be getting some LGBTQIA representation with “Maggie,” a lesbian detective whom I assume is basically Maggie Sawyer from the comics. Apparently, she’s coming to National City as part of the “newly formed Science Police, which deals specifically with metahuman and alien threats.” The Science Police?? They couldn’t come up with a cooler name than that? Now I’m imagining police officers patrolling labs being like That’s not how you keep a beaker clean. VIOLATION!

Lastly, we’ll be introduced to “Snapper Carr, a veteran journalist appointed by Cat to remake the news division by going old school,” but not the Justice League sidekick. Cool?

There’s a lot going on here! Already we know that Alex and J’onn going after Jeremiah is going to be a big part of next season. I’m sure that the Science Police and the DEO will be at odds constantly over jurisdiction. Also, I’m feeling like Alex and Maggie may need to hook up is all I’m saying. (The only time we’ve ever seen Alex with a dude, it was Maxwell Lord, and she was there for work.)
