At a panel at Silicon Valley Comic Con, Jeremy Renner said he’d definitely love to do a Netflix series for Hawkeye–you know, like the ones other Marvel characters have been getting lately:
“I think that’s actually a really great model, if there’s ever a way to explore the character, maybe it’s in that world. These are things that are really not in my control, but I’d be open to it. I’ve really enjoyed getting to explore the character more recently. The Netflix model is where all the character drama goes to now, you’re doing a superhero movie or a Netflix or HBO kind of model. So I’d be open to it. Not up to me, though.”
The idea of a Hawkeye Netflix show intrigues me, but I’d certainly be more inclined to want it if they made it more of a standalone show, giving Clint Barton his own storyline apart from any of the other Avengers (although I wouldn’t necessarily say no to cameos). One thing that would be great would be a Netflix show adapted from the Hawkeye comic arc by Matt Fraction and David Aja–one that I just read and would be a great story for Netflix to adapt into a series. The visuals alone in that comic would be a fun challenge to bring to life in a TV medium. (And each episode could start with a Hawkeye voiceover: “Okay, this looks bad.”)
The other plus side of adapting from the 2012 Hawkeye would be the potential for Kate Bishop–a character I absolutely adore and one who is long overdue to make her own appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in some way. (By the way, if you haven’t read Fraction and Aja’s Hawkeye, I highly recommend it. Hawkeye has a dog (Pizza Dog!) and it is exactly as endearing as it sounds.)
When asked whether he would be up for doing a solo movie with Black Widow, Renner responded “without hesitation” that he’d do it “in a second.”
