Samantha Bee Teaches Lawmakers About Gun Control With the Magic of Children’s Theater

Recommended Videos

Samantha Bee’s been killing it lately on Full Frontal. This segment about gun control from Monday’s episode is no exception, either. In it, she explores the current preposterousness surrounding gun control in our country. How does she do so? Why, with the magic of children’s theater, of course! (Didn’t you read the headline?)

Bee begins by relaying a tragic yet all-too-familiar story of a school shooting. From there, she explores the steps lawmakers have taken to prevent future school shootings, which involve everything from a krav maga teacher teaching drills to a children’s book about active shooter drills—basically everything that isn’t related to the control of gun sales by federal or state law.

It’s galling to see how some of these politicians react to school/mass shootings. There’s a clip of Ben Carson suggesting that people attack an active shooter en masse “because he can’t kill us all.” And then he laughs about it. Let that sink in for a moment. A former presidential candidate (not former at the time of the clip) laughing about shooters and people getting killed.

This all leads up to a realization for Bee: that instead of talking up to authority figures, she should talk down to them. She oversimplifies (in a good way) how ridiculous things are right now in a hilarious piece of children’s theater.

You should definitely give the video a watch. It really features Bee at her best.
