Pacific Rim 2 Is a Go, Daredevil Director Steven DeKnight Earns Guillermo del Toro Approval

Are you ready, gang? After so much back and forth, it seems like Pacific Rim 2 has finally been confirmed, complete with a brand spanking new director. Steven S. DeKnight, who runs the show over at Daredevil, and is the creator and head writer of the Spartacus series on Starz, will be taking over for Guillermo del Toro at the helm.

In the past, DeKnight has also directed episodes of DollhouseSmallvilleBuffy the Vampire Slayer, and Angel. He’ll find a drift-compatible co-pilot in Jon Spaihts, who will be taking on writing duties for the movie. Spaiht’s credits include PrometheusVan Helsing, the upcoming Doctor Strange, and Universal’s classic movie monster reboot, The Mummy.

No word yet on whether del Toro’s wish of having Maisie Williams in on the sequel will come to pass. But man, wouldn’t that be something? Also, keep in mind there are no plot details yet. There are rumors that the sequel will focus more on the Kaiju world and perhaps even be a prequel, so as to go back on the whole “cancelling the apocalypse thing”… way to do your job super well, there, Idris Elba. Either way, expect to hear about some exciting bits coming down the pipeline real soon.

What are your thoughts, fellow pilots? Does this cancel the PacRim 2-less apocalypse, or does it just reopen a Breach for you?
