Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Comic From BOOM! Gives Rangers an Updated Look

There’s been so much going on in Power Rangers land, from a reboot film, to a Netflix show, and coming in 2016, an awesome-looking comic from BOOM! Studios. The publisher already released some pretty sweet cover art back in September for the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers comic  But today, BOOM! released a look at some additional art and character designs for our favorite teenagers with attitude!

The series will start with Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #0, a sort-of prologue to the main series, on January 13th. In addition to the main story, it will also feature an ongoing back-up Bulk and Skull storyline – because who can get enough of those two? This one-shot is written by Steve Orlando, with art by Corin Howell.

The main series, written by Kyle Higgins with art by Hendry Prasetya, starts in March 2016 with a “Green Ranger: Year One” storyline. Issue #1 will have eight variant covers, including the awesome one above by Kevin Wada, which features the team in their classic uniforms.

However, despite the shout-out to their classic attire, it seems that Prasetya is all about updating their looks for 2015, as you can see in these character designs of the team in their civvies:

Is it wrong that I’m more excited for this comic than anything else? Truth be told, I was never terribly into the show when I was a kid. I liked the idea of the Power Rangers, and I totally played with the toys, but even as a kid I couldn’t quite get over the campiness. (And I watched Saved By the Bell!) But a team of heroes in a comic? Makes total sense. I feel like this medium will allow some really cool stories to be told that might not be told otherwise on TV or in a film.

Hey, who knows? If this comic does well, they could totally make a movie out of it! Oh, wait

Will you be picking this up?
