One of the more grounded storylines on ABC’s Nashville has been that of Juliette Barnes, played by Hayden Panettiere, a country superstar who has a child with her husband and throws herself back into her work immediately after giving birth at the expense of her relationship with her new daughter and her husband, Avery. Panettiere can relate, and has used her role to expand the public conversation about the frequently misunderstood condition, postpartum depression.
She mentions having suffered postpartum depression in her “25 Things You Don’t Know About Me” column for US Weekly, and on a recent appearance on Live with Kelly and Michael, she relates Juliette’s journey on Nashville to her own, emphasizing how important it is for women to talk about openly:
