Spider-Man Will Be Only 15 Years Old In The New Movie

Not even old enough to be going on college visits yet.

We already knew the upcoming Spider-Man reboot would send Peter Parker back to high school, but we didn’t know his exact age until today: he’ll be a fresh-faced boy of 15. Actor Tom Holland is 19, if you’re curious, but he was probably younger when they filmed most of this. That’s a big change from both Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, who were both in their late twenties when they filmed their respective Spider-Man flicks; both former web-crawlers had to act younger than they were, but neither could have reasonably passed for 15.

Even though Spidey’s a wee teen, director Jon Watts promises yet again that this won’t be yet another origin story: “There are only so many times you can kill Uncle Ben.” So, uh, does that mean Uncle Ben’s already dead, then? We know Spider-Man’s already found his suit and started slinging around town, given that he has a cameo as his super-heroic self in Civil War. So I guess this version of Spider-Man has him starting his tragic tale from a very, very young age.

Sounds strange to me; if you don’t want to do an origin story, why not make Spidey a little bit older? Why insist on putting him in high school?
