The Era of the Chicken Shop Date Is Officially Ending, As Amelia Dimoldenberg Prepares To Leave Her Romcom Experiment Behind for Something New

What’s next?

It is officially closing time at the chicken shop. According to Complex, on September 3, 2026, internet personality Amelia Dimoldenberg announced that she is bringing her long-running video interview series, Chicken Shop Date, to a definitive end. This marks the conclusion of a project that fundamentally changed the landscape of celebrity interviews by blending awkward, deadpan humor with the high-stakes world of A-list promotion.

Dimoldenberg shared the news through a heartfelt handwritten note posted across her various social media platforms. In the message, she reflected on the origins of the series, noting that the concept was born when she was just 17 years old. She wrote, “When I was 17 I had a fantastic idea that I might meet the love of my life in a chicken shop.”

It is wild to think about how that simple, teenage curiosity evolved into a cultural phenomenon that lasted for over a decade. She continued, “I have spent my entire twenties sat across from the most incredible people, people l’d always dreamed of meeting. All of them have charmed me (some more than others) and I have definitely charmed them.”

Chicken Shop Date first launched on YouTube in 2014

It is truly impressive to look back at the trajectory of the show. Over the years, it grew to amass a following of over 4.4 million subscribers on YouTube alone, eventually hitting the massive milestone of over 1 billion views. It is not often that an internet-native show sustains that kind of momentum for ten years. Dimoldenberg, 32, produced the series through her own label, Dimz Inc., and managed to turn what could have been a fleeting sketch into a legitimate brand.

The guest list reads like a who-who of global entertainment. Dimoldenberg sat down with major names including Andrew Garfield, Jennifer Lawrence, SZA, Stormzy, Idris Elba, Paul Mescal, Harris Dickinson, Louis Theroux, and Zara Larsson. Some of these episodes became instant classics, such as the moment Kehlani broke down sapphic terminology or the time Jack Harlow tried to explain the concept of a little library.

The show was frequently compared to the high-profile interview style of Sean Evans and his show Hot Ones. It was always a treat to see the two creators make guest appearances on each other’s programs.

Dimoldenberg’s chemistry with her guests is everything

For many viewers, the appeal of Chicken Shop Date was the specific, semi-romantic tension that Dimoldenberg cultivated with her guests. She leaned into the bit, playing it off like a real-life romcom. “To me the show is my very own romcom and I have loved creating so many stories for you to watch,” she noted in her announcement.

She expressed deep gratitude for her audience, adding, “I am so grateful to everyone who has followed me on this journey and found some joy in these episodes. I never thought I’d stop Chicken Shop Date. I thought maybe it would be part of me forever, and in some way it always will be. But I feel like it’s now time to move on from this adventure and onto a new one.”

The impact of the show on her career has been massive. It opened doors to high-profile brand partnerships, such as her work with Olay, and led to a cameo appearance in The Devil Wears Prada 2. She even earned a spot on the coveted TIME100 Creators list. It is clear that this project was the foundation for her current status as a powerhouse in the creator economy.

Fans have already begun mourning the end of this era on social media

One fan commented, “An entire generation of British artists is about to lose their only excuse for awkward eye contact.” Another supporter wrote, “I suppose it is time to move on to bigger and better things, but I will still miss you on your ‘Chicken Shop Date’ show, Amelia.” It is clear that for many, the show provided a unique kind of entertainment that will be difficult to replace.

Fortunately, we aren’t quite at the final curtain call yet. While the series is coming to an end, Dimoldenberg confirmed that she has one last round of interviews to share before the shop closes for good. She said, “Before I say goodbye forever, I want to celebrate everything Chicken Shop Date has been for me with a few final dates. Coming very soon…,” though she has not yet set a specific date for the final episode.

This departure from YouTube does not mean she is stepping away from the camera. Reality Tea reports that in February, she announced that she will be starring in and producing an upcoming romantic comedy for Amazon MGM Studios’ Orion Pictures. It seems like the perfect next step for someone who spent ten years treating her own interview series like a cinematic romcom.

While it is sad to see the chicken shop era conclude, it will be exciting to see how Amelia Dimoldenberg translates that distinct, witty, and charming energy into a traditional film format.
