Dwayne Johnson, Skipper Extraordinaire, Starring in Disney’s Jungle Cruise

Recommended Videos

Apparently Dwayne Johnson is set to star in Disney’s Jungle Cruise, a movie based on the theme park ride of the same name. John Requa and Glenn Ficarra (Focus) are penning the script. The movie’s been in development in one form or another since 2004, and now with Johnson confirmed, it looks like the cruise will be ready to kick off sometime soon.

Listen. As an admitted Disneyland fan, I have to say the Jungle Cruise is easily my most favorite ride in the entire park. It has something special about it that the other rides lack: the skippers. They bring a wicked sense of humor and are perhaps some of the funniest people in the entire park, and that is the real charm of the ride.

Judging by the crew that’s shaping up for this movie, it’s hard to tell whether the same kind of charm and tone will be preserved, or if it’ll be an action movie with a Jungle Cruise shell. We know Johnson has some comedy chops, so there’s always that chance. But only time will tell. It’s still early in the process, so who knows what could happen.
