Big Finish Gets One Third of a Doctor Who Paternoster Gang Spinoff

Strax needs some time away, it seems.

How long have we been waiting for a Doctor Who Paternoster Gang-centered spinoff? A while, right? Well, Big Finish is apparently getting a shot at breaking out at least one member of the gang. Strax will find himself away from Madame Vastra and Jenny, joining up with two other classic Who Victorian characters for an audio special: Henry Gordon Jago and George Litefoot. The audio drama is titled Jago & Litefoot & Strax. They solemnly swear they’re up to no good.

According to Doctor Who News, there’s actually a pretty funny reason Strax is following Jago and Litefoot.

In Jago & Litefoot & Strax, the Sontaran suffers a disorienting attack, then mistakes the two Victorian investigators for Jenny and Vastra. Together, they are on the trail of a creature that is stealing brains, which may or may not be linked to a haunted house in London.

It’s a bit disappointing that they’re essentially replacing Madame Vastra and Jenny, two badass women, with two men. Sure they’ve got historical ties to the Doctor and all that, but… just what made them want to build a new trio, when there was already a great trio in the Paternoster Gang? It all seems just a bit off.

And you know how the Doctor deals with things that seem a bit off, don’t you? He pokes it until it becomes an even bigger problem.

We’ll let you know when the eventual Dalek subplot around this creative decision reveals itself. Now where’s my screwdriver…
