The Internet might be a cesspool, but it also offers profound and unprecedented ways for creators to connect with audiences and each other. Selma director Ava DuVernay is currently hosting a 12-hour Twitter Rebel-A-Thon that will bring together 42 black filmmakers in support of the AFFRM (African-American Film Festival Releasing Movement) campaign, a distribution collective founded by DuVernay in 2011.

A press release (via Indiewire) explains,

For the second consecutive year, African-American Film Festival Releasing Movement (AFFRM) will unite 40+ black feature filmmakers to interact with film lovers and raise awareness for AFFRM’s 2015 Rebel membership drive. Utilizing the #ARRAY hashtag, filmmakers will tweet in a 12-hour long conversation to further and foster varied voices and visions in cinema.

AFFRM’s membership drive will continue from now through June 5th; the collective’s goal is to sign up 1,000 new members. But why wait until June to get involved when so many incredible filmmakers are sharing their knowledge online right now?
