Mad Men Series Finale Discussion: “Person to Person”

*Don stares off into the middle-distance.*

We don’t usually cover Mad Men, but we couldn’t contain our feelings about the finale, and we’re guessing some of you feel the same! Feel free to talk about it, theorize, and drive each other crazy in the comments below, but there WILL be spoilers for those who haven’t seen it yet.

Seriously! Spoilers. Don’t complain that I didn’t warn you.

So! Now that that’s out of the way, what did everyone think? Personally, I was a bit sad that Peggy didn’t go into business with Joan, but I’m glad Joan isn’t with that control freak anymore, and “Steggy” validated literally seasons of screaming “JUST MAKE OUT!” at the television every time Peggy and Stan argued, so I’ll take it.

And then the elephant in the room: Don. I’m sure everyone has their own interpretation of the slow, meandering wrap up to his “redemption” arc—as much of a redemption as he could get, anyway—but I’d like to think we’re meant to understand that he’s finally given up his longing for the “outside of work life” he always felt was out there calling for him and will finally just go back and live his life the way it is. So ends the vicious cycle of Don Draper ruining everything and then coming back from it.

If anything disappointed me, it was that Pete Campbell somehow got a happy ending while Betty Draper is dying, and this did not come to pass unless there was a post-credits scene I missed:

But don’t let me have all the fun! What did you all think?
