Wil Wheaton To Play President Abraham Lincoln In A Video Game Because Life Is Grand

Four score and seven years ago, Wil Wheaton recorded a bunch of lines for Codename S.T.E.A.M., and now you will be able to hear him in the game when it comes out next week—as ABRAHAM LINCOLN. Wait, this makes total sense. Everyone knows that Abraham Lincoln invented the emoticon, and Wil Wheaton is the current president of the Internet! It fits, I tells ya! It aaaaaall fits!

Four score and seven years ago, Wil Wheaton recorded a bunch of lines for Codename S.T.E.A.M., and now you will be able to hear him in the game when it comes out next week—as ABRAHAM LINCOLN. Codename S.T.E.A.M. (man do I kind of wish they’d kept the subtitle from the Japanese release, “Lincoln Vs. Aliens”) is a turn-based strategy game for the Nintendo 3DS that’s sort of not unlike The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, in which fictional characters from classic literature—Henry Fleming from The Red Badge of Courage, Tom Sawyer, Peter Pan‘s Tiger Lily, the Cowardly Lion—are brought together by the 13th president of the United States to fight aliens in a steampunk Victorian London. Here’s the game trailer:

Now, imagine Wil Wheaton’s voice in this game’s universe on top of all the steam-powered literary action and Lovecraftian alien invaders. AMAZING, right? This is going to be so much fun.

Hilariously, the casting news has also upset a lot of people (most likely, if I had to guess, due to Wheaton’s open distaste for Gamergate) who’ve taken to complaining at the Nintendo America Twitter account about it.

Oh well, more copies for the rest of us! Enjoy not playing video games, friends.

For those who aren’t put off by the presence of Wheaton, the game comes out on March 13th. I’m super excited. What about you?
