ORLY: Jonathan Pryce Says to Expect Surprises and Deaths in Game of Thrones Season 5

Are you excited for some new characters to show up for Game of Thrones Season 5? I know I am and one of them in particular is Jonathan Pryce’s turn as the High Sparrow.

We found out about Pryce’s casting back in July along with a few other fantastic names, and he made a brief appearance in HBO’s “Day in the Life” special, but fans who haven’t read the books have little idea who the High Sparrow is. Without spoiling anything, the character is the High Septon of the Faith of the Seven, the dominant religion practiced in King’s Landing. He’ll play a very integral role in Season 5.

However, in an interview with Liverpool Echo, Pryce talked about another role he’s taken on — Cardinal Wolsey in Wolf Hall. It’s one with clear comparisons to his Thrones role.

“I suppose when you look at any group of politicians from the Tudor age to the present day, there has always been that machination behind the scenes, the done deals and the clever maneuvering,” he said, “It’s all there.”

And like much of the Thrones cast, Pryce didn’t say much about events this season.

“I can’t give too much away but there are some real surprises this season,” he says wryly. “Some surprise deaths too, but ten [sic] that’s Game of Thrones.” And don’t you forget it, says George R.R. Martin!
