Angelina Jolie is ready for a fresh start and one big family change may explain why

The renewed attention comes after a recent family milestone that aligns with a timeline the actress previously shared while discussing how her personal circumstances had influenced where she lived.

While the actress has not announced any immediate move, PEOPLE reports that changes in her family have given her greater flexibility.  Jolie is ready to begin a new chapter after her youngest children, twins Knox and Vivienne, turned 18 on July 12. A source told the magazine that the milestone allows the actress to move forward with plans she had discussed publicly in the past.

“She’s been talking about leaving Los Angeles for years,” the insider said. “She’s happy to have more freedom and flexibility in her life.” The insider added that Jolie’s children have remained her priority throughout the years following her separation from Brad Pitt, saying, “The kids have always been her priority.”

It looks like Jolie is finally getting the freedom she wanted

The insider also said Jolie has long wanted her children to experience the world. “Jolie has wanted them to experience the world and she’s excited that they can all do more of that together now,” the source added. “She’s ready for it.”  As Jolie prepares for a new chapter, her work on screen continues to draw attention, including her past performance in Those Who Wish Me Dead.

The latest report follows comments Jolie made during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter in August 2024, when she explained why she continued living in Los Angeles after separating from Pitt. “I grew up in” Los Angeles, Jolie said, adding that she was living there “because I have to be here from a divorce.”

She also said she expected that to change once her youngest children reached adulthood.  “But as soon as they’re 18, I’ll be able to leave.” Jolie said her decision was rooted in creating the best environment for her family. “When you have a big family, you want them to have privacy, peace, safety.”

She also discussed how she hoped to spend her time once she had greater flexibility. “I have a house now to raise my children, but sometimes this place can be … that humanity that I found across the world is not what I grew up with here. [After Los Angeles,] I’ll spend a lot of time in Cambodia. I’ll spend time visiting my family members wherever they may be in the world.”

Jolie and Pitt separated in 2016 after 12 years together and two years of marriage. As Brad Pitt continues to bask in the glory of F1, Angelina Jolie is quietly moving away from Hollywood over years, their divorce was finalized in December 2024, although they remain involved in an ongoing legal dispute over Château Miraval, the French winery they once owned together.

Pitt has had “virtually no contact” with his adult children. Before Knox and Vivienne turned 18, they were the only members of the family who were still legally minors, they were the only members of the family who were still legally minors.

Away from her personal life, Jolie continues to work on upcoming film projects. She is attached to the crime thriller Sunny and the crime comedy Anxious People. During an interview with Yahoo Entertainment, Jolie said she has not been in another relationship since her divorce. “I haven’t dated or been with anyone since I divorced a decade ago.”
